Hi, my dsd charger just died, and i was wondering if i could use my nokia charger as a replacement to charge the 18650 batteries.

dsd charger is

AC:110-240v
50-60Hz
DC:5.5v/450mA

nokia charger is

AC:100-240v
50-60Hz
DC:5.3v/500mA

thanks,

ko

I'm not sure about this because I haven't tried, but many people at DX said they did this and works perfectly.

But first make sure that the problem is in the charger and not in the battery unit.

If it's your wall plug that has died, then yes you can use that charger as a power supply.

The DSD charger appears to output 4.15v to the cell when charging, even if using a higher input voltage than that.

I am using a nokia 5.7v, 800mAh charger, and have measured the voltage output across the cell while charging, and it's still reads 4.15v.

I think people who try and use the 3.5v nokia chargers might struggle.

thanks all, is it harmfull to the batterien to use a 800 mah output instead of 500mah?

Hi Ko, no not at all.
(At least as long as you don't charge Li-Ions with less than 800 mAh.)
Not sure if the charging unit even uses more current with the different power supply. I'd guess the unit limits the current to a certain level anyway.

The Nokia charger works for me too
I've got a UK model that does 800ma@ 5.7V and it's the only charger i've ever used for the DSD :)

I've got the DSD charger that I use for charging 18650s. The adapter that came with it is rated 5.5V, 450mA. I have another adapter that is rated 5V 1.5A. Since I won't be charging rcr123, only 2000+ mAh cells, and as I understand, 1.5A is under 1C for an 18650, can I use this wall adapter?
I also charge matched pairs whenever they happen to be within ~5/1000 of a V of each other

Starting to think my posts don't show up in this forum. I've never had a question answered in the battery section. Maybe answer this question: can you see this text?
