Disassemble Fenix L1 head without killing circuit board?

I'm thinking of trying to upgrade my older L1D CE to a Q5 or R2.

The head does look like a PITA to remove. I'd really like to do it without destroying the circuit. Here's one post:

My soldering skills are probably not as good. The idea is very good, a key of sorts could be made if any part of the circuit board can be safely drilled.

I remember the old L1P was, with some exceptions, glued on for eternity. The L1D was a different design and easier to open. I've opened every L1D,L2D,P2D,P3D head that I've attempted, with simple strap wrenches and sufficient torque.

Thanks for the fast response! This is my first mod attempt... Am I better off getting a bare emitter?
