I have an Energizer 6AA Double Barrel flashlight and was wondering what mod I could do to make it brighter/better than it currently is?

Thanks for your input! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/popcorn.gif

How about dual Luxeon 5W direct drive? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif The batteries would probably get just as hot as the LEDs. That would be funny.

Here's how I have several of my DB6AA's set up.

place 3 @ CR123's and a lithium AA in each barrell.

Tun a Welch Allyn 9.0 V 1.10 Amp #12178 bulb.

This bulb appears to run at about 9.4V at which it is rated at 279 Lumen CCT of 3308 and 16 hours expected bulb life.

Run time should be > 2 hours (and the AA's can be used with a second set of 123's after the first set is dead.)

How would the heat of that setup work [both of yours suggestions], since the housing and reflector are plastic?

By the way, is that system running the 6AA to produce 9 volts to the bulb, or is it a parallel battery system running 4.5 volts to the bulb?

The system is set up with the barrels running in parallel.

The roughly 10W will damage the reflector and the plastic bulb socket if run for extended periods. I haven't run this for more than 10 minutes at a time.

This setup funs dimmer and cooler than 3 123's in each side of a DB4aa and driving a W/A 01315 6.27 V 1.42 A bulb.

You could also use 2 123's and a lithium AA plus a 17mm long spacer with a W/A #01116 6.0 V 1.35 A bulb.

Finally, you could use 1 123 plus 2 AA's and a 17 mm spacer on each side with a W/a 01307 4.8 V 1.1 amp bulb. I use this bulb in a DB8AA with 8 alkaline AA's. This is considerably brighter than my PT Surge.

I Direct Drove a 1 watt Low Dome on a massive heat sink. Sawed off the bulb post and fastened the heat sink to the switch plate. About a half inch of aluminum would be better, I used 5/16 and the led did not meet the reflector without help. Bright and kind of wide spot, nowhere near Space Needle territory, but useful.
