Beginners question on Martin's circuits

This is my first post to CPF to be gentle please.

I've got a hub dynamo and am planning to build a light using one of Martin's circuits. I'm going to start with asimple one and see how I get on before proceeding to more complicated designs.

My question is if I use a Cree xml which has a Vf of about 3v and the dynamo puts out a nominal 6v will the led be damaged if I go too fast? If not, what limits the voltage? Ultimately I plan to use 2 or 3 leds but I'd like to understand the way it all works before going ahead.

Thanks in advance.

Since the answer to my original question has been lost, I'll answer it myself for completeness.

The LED won't be damaged by 6v, it's excess current that kills LEDs and the dynamo can be considered a constant current device nominally putting out 500mA although it is possible to get as much as 1A with the right circuitry.
