The PolyZion battery seems to be applying nickel-zinc chemistry to the li-poly packaging, in order to create a more stable NiZn cell. Whereas the PowerGenix has a life cycle of around 100 cycles, this is shooting for 90% health at 1000 cycles. In addition, they should be significantly safer than lithium cells, for obvious reasons.

Here's the manufacturer: http://www.polyzion.eu/

Interesting. I wonder why they (and others) like to publish these things before they have a working product? Trying to attract venture capital?

Anyway, I like the fact they're talking about electric cars in the article. Maybe if it's energy-dense, light, and safe enough, they'll make large-format batteries for auto use—like Tesla's future commuter car.

PolyZion Batteries are looking to get these out to the market by 2015. This may help reduce prices on Electric vehicles. I'm all for better fuel prices.

i hear NiZn cells are crap.

What is wrong with you? I see you're from HK and I understand that writing in a foreign forum can be difficult. But come on, you've been here longer than me, which is a while. Please try to put a little more thought and effort into making your posts at least useful in some way.

Sweeping statements like that are just pointless. Nickel-zinc cells had their problems, but they showed promise too. The OP's post points out an interesting article involving a method which could lead to much more reliable and long-lasting zinc based chemistry, addressing the main problem which made them 'crap'.
