Mircrostream and 10440

I'm really digging the little Microstream for what it is. I want to dabble in 10440 land soon. Searched the forum and google but still need some answers. Seems like they are all unprotected. Are unprotected safe in a good charger like a Nitecore D4? Are there protected cells and would they work? Flat or button top? I know this has danger potential so I want to play it a little safe. Certainly would only use in bursts. And yes, I am aware that 10440s weren't recommended/intended to be used by Streamlight.

Unprotected trust fires, button top, i4 charger. Won't run this light any other way now. Decent runtime (30 min) and probably 5x as bright as alkaline. You will not be disappointed if you make the switch.
