i deliver pizzas in a rather sketchy area of st. louis, MO, and i have a good streamlight scorpion X (200 lumens) to help bring a little light to those dark corners of the neighborhoods. after i went through a 12 pk of energizer cr 123 in a little over 4 months, i decided to switch to rechargeable batteries. so i purchased 2 nitecore nl166 rcr123a (650mAh 3.7v 2.4Wh) and they get the job done ok, but i would like to get batteries that last longer and give a birghter beam (i noticed that when i am using the energizer cr123, the beam is brighter than when i use a fully charged 16340). i also need 2 more batteries to have on reserve for when the 2 that are in use start to go dim. so i want to purchase 2-4 more 16340s, but i want to see if it is possible to get some that fulfill my needs a little better (higher mAh). i've also tried to use a 18650 in the light but it wont fit because the battery's diameter is too large. i've done quite a bit of looking on amazon for nitecore batteries that have a higher mAh and i am coming up dry. if anyone can give me any helpful suggestions or guide me in the proper direction, i would be greatly appreciative.

Finding better batteries than your Nitcore ones won't be easy,im also looking for some good 16340's for an old halogen torch a have.
If you want better performance save what you would spend on new batteries and get something better to use your 18650.

How about using a sanyo 16650 cells, 2500mah and 4.35v fully charged(Xtar vp2 or sp1 to name a couple of chargers that support 4.35v cells). Not sure on your light, but if it takes 2x cr123 then the 16650 will fit in their place.

It would appear that the Scorpion X is indeed a 2xCR123 light. So at least in terms of fitment, 1x16650 would work. Whether the light will actually work on the lower voltage is another matter. But given that a 16650 is not terribly expensive, it might be worth a try. If it DOESN'T work, you might just want to look into getting another light. A 1x18650 light wouldn't be much (if any) bigger, would be MUCH brighter, and would run MUCH longer. And since this is probably the most popular size of light out there, choices abound as far as size, price, beam profile, brightness, tint, etc.

I've been running an Orbtronic 700mAh protected 16340/RCR123 in my Jetbeam TCR21 with good results. They are not expensive, the shipping is fast.

for 16340's I go Keeppower. Never had one fail or malfunction. I got some Orbtronic 16340's awhile back and one of them was bad right out the box it would not take a full charge and its protection circuit would trip for no reason so I switched to Keeppower. Never had a single issue with any Keeppower cell and I have dozens of them in varying sizes. But....to be quite honest if you want the longest runtimes go to Battery Junction and buy a big box of Panasonic CR123 primaries. The Panasonics are 1550mah and Battery Junction always has the freshest cells in stock. You can buy a box of a couple dozen of these cells for 40 ish dollars. The more you buy the cheaper they are per cell. The Panasonics are arguably the best highest quality CR123 primary there is. I bought a box of 48. Remember that with 16340's the mah rating is rounded up. Actual mah for 16340's is usually 40 or 50 mah below what is printed on the label. Illumn will have the Keeppowers. Battery Junction will have your bulk Panasonics

Search for the "flashlight with usb"
Brighter, last longer than your streamlight scorpion X, and you can charge it anywhere you charge your phone.
