BIG \"D\" from Pelican, what to get?

It seems that Pelican's big "D" light is starting to come in. Has anyone reviewed it? A CPFer stated before that it was better than the Litebox from Streamlight.

As far as I can tell, there are three different versions; an alkaline, and two rechargables, a lead acid and NiCad. What do you think the difference would be between the two rechargables? There is a big price difference (50%).

Lead Acid is 0.2lbs heavier, and has 15-30 minutes longer runtime then NiCad.

Alkaline is a waste of money - it puts out 200lum vs. 615lum of rechargeables.

I have been using it for almost a year, and it is a great light.

FC.,

What version do you have and where did you get it from?

It seems that the lead acid is .2 pounds heavier than the NiCad, but the runtime is 15 minutes longer. The NiCad version is 10 lumens brighter, but that is probably negligable.

Keep in mind, the nimh version will be easier to charge, and not have the memory effect,
it will also be better at letting you charge it as you like, alot of my lights in the past that have had acid batts, the batt goes bad if you dont keep up on charging it etc.

I do not think that any online dealers stock it.
The only way I know to get one is to get a hold of a fire/rescue equipment dealer, and order it.

With NiCD you can drive it into the ground more than lead acids. Neither one has much of a memory, lead acid has none, NiCD essentially none too. I think NiCD makes more sense unless you don't use the light for long periods.

oops, sorry, misread that, ni-cad huh?
well, that would still be alittle better, as Cheese said, you can drive it down more without worries.

If you drive a SLA down alllll the way, it will not like it. ESPECIALLY if you dont charge it back up right away.

What type of beam does it put out?
Is it good at cutting through smoke?
Or more importantly for my purposes...FOG???
If you were going to leave it on a charger all the time, which battery would you choose?
