Luxeon 1W driver

Hi,
I'm looking for a driver for one 1W LS. Power : 2AA cell.
I started to build a driver with MAX1674. New IC's are now better to do this ?
Where can I by a "ready to use" driver ? (I'm located in France).

I'd recommend Georges80's being an exellent and deserves-to-pay-for-it in various applicable as well as good lecture for copy cats !

I believe a majority of Wayne's drivers still use MAX1674. My limited understanding of them suggest that it is still a very good IC to use. The other one would be the Zetex stuff, ZXSC300 and the like. It was widely used by CPFers and is probably still in use in the CMG Infinity Ultra and LEDsupply MicroPuck. The ZXSC300 is a little smaller than the MAX1674 in terms of footprint.

Alternative to using ICs (which usually provide a more elegant solution), there are circuits published by various CPFers which use common components rather than relying on a particular IC. Some are actually quite good and rival the ICs in efficiency, but most require tweaking of the components to get good efficiency.
