What\'s the Maxabeam comparable to?

After reading over THe Superlights website and other reviews of the Maxabeam, i can't help but notice the differences of the amount of light from the Maxabeam and other longer arc HID systems like the D2S Systems.

If the D2S can output ~3200 lumens. How many lumens does the Maxabeam short-arc system output?

Also, how big of a reflector would you need to match the beam angle of the Maxabeam at its tightest setting? Can you imagine? A 3200 lumen bulb focused down to a lazer like beam? WHEW!

The lumen output of the maxabeam's 75 watt short arc xenon lamp is at about 1000 lumens. As for reflector size, for it to have a beam like the maxabeam the reflector would need to be large and deep.

Is the Maxabeam really that inefficient?

1000 lumes from 75 Watt, that's just around 13-14 lumens per watt...

yup it's that bad, there are no metal vapors or halides to generate the extra light. The advantage is it's a very small intence arc that can be focused very well with a smaller reflector, it's instant on and the color temp is realy good.

1000lm is pretty bad for a 25lb light.

You may very well need a reflector nearly 100% larger and deeper than that of the Maxabeam to focus a D2S beam to the extreme of the MB...
