BB500 NG reflector centering ring

Hi all, I just got a BB500 NG with the reflector, for a 2AA minimag. Following the instructions for installing the reflector EXACTLY will not allow me to center the reflector perfectly. It always seems to move slightly to one side. The beam is uneffected, but when you look at the reflector, you can tell that part of it is being overlapped by the smaller O-ring.

When I remove the smaller inner O-ring, everything lines up perfectly and works much better. So I ask, do I absolutely have to have this smaller O ring installed in the maglite? It seems to work better without it, but I just want to make sure that i'm not unknowingly hurting anything.

I think it would be fine if you can get it centered that way and it works. Are you using a Kroll? I actually put some superglue on the two o-rings and it worked better for me when centering. Nothing slipped.

Not using a kroll, just the standard twist functionality of the stock minimag.
