M2XC4 versus LX2

If you change that SF "whatever" to a TK-10/11/12 or M20 or Jet-IIIM etc etc most people would be saying the same thing.

In short, there's nothing to "wow" about the SF especially after considering its price.
mabe you should try one before judging, I have several fenix's and I always reach for a surefire.

What a load of B.S! The LX2 absolutely destroys the TK10/11 or the Jet-III M. There is no 2xCR123 light that an L2X can't kill. And yes, there is a lot to "wow" about SF, you don't even need to turn it on to be "wowed" about it.

i respect the op's comparison for the sake of praising both lights. there's no need to enter the lx2 in a pissin' match. you either "get it" or you don't. some probably can't.

lx2 is the porsche. simple and purpose built, feature-poor, seemingly over priced. just doesn't quote make sense on paper. but once you get the "feel," it all makes perfect sense. and on sf's end, obviously lots of thought went into it--which, compared to other makes, is best reflected by what it doesn't have than what it does have.

lots of love for the lx2 out there and, personally, it ended my 12+ months spell of buying the (not-so) latest-and-greatest this-and-that light. think of all the $$ you'll spend buying and selling lights you don't keep--and just cough it up now and buy an lx2. you will anyway. and if you're a user, you'll love it.

i can't say its "better" than any other light. it's just really the only one i reach for anymore. that probably speaks for itself.

Have to say that I completely disagree.
I have a TK11, M20 & Jet-III and the LX2 simply walks all over them, in more ways than one.

:)

Also, I love those other three lights... So it says a lot!

The LX2 is the best bargain in LED flashlights if you ask me. It's worth twice what they charge for it. Thank goodness there are engineers willing to make a flashlight with exactly the UI I would build for myself, in a package built exactly how I would like it.

The way I see it, I only pay for the flashlight once. But I will use it for a looooooong time. :grin2:

I have both the M2XC4 and the LX2 and as stated they are totally different lights and I love both.

To the point of the LX2's quality - I love the TIR lens. The TIR lens is something which has been missing from LED lights for a long time. Gather every bit of light from the LED and push that throw forever. I can easily throw the beam 150 yards and get as much illumination as a TK40 on high from a light I can throw in my pocket. Put on a F04 diffuser and you can EDC it for close-up or distance.

I've been running the LX2 head on my E1L with a RCR123 and THAT is really a light to behold. Nearly as bright as the LX2 on 2 primaries - very impressive.

Reading this makes me want to get one already. The only problem is that I don't want to part with my L4. It's been my edc for 3 1/2 years. Someone help me!

Says you fool.
lovecpf But not rude ones. :tired:

Wrong again. Although I enjoy the ownership of several brands of lights, I am under the firm conviction that my Surefires are the lights that I feel best about spending alot of money on. Tell me of another company that you can beat the living snot out of their lights...and if they break, they will repair or replace them for life. Go ahead and put a value on that sir....
Man, i have no idea what you'r talking about.
SureFire, LLC warrants our illumination tool products to be free from defect in workmanship and materials, including any LEDs housed within, for the lifetime of the original owner. We will repair, replace, or refund your original purchase price of this product, at our discretion, if it is determined by us to be defective. Electronics, chargers, and rechargeable batteries are covered for a period of two years with proof of purchase. Normal wear and tear — including lamps burning out, batteries draining, and switches wearing out — is not covered, nor is damage resulting from abuse, neglect, battery leakage, use of other than SureFire-brand batteries or accessories, or altering this product from its original state. SureFire offers a 10-year limited warranty in any country or under any jurisdiction where specific restrictions exist on limited lifetime warranties.

Also, this "life time warranty" is NOT unconditional, besides, it doesn't apply outside the US.

As with the rest of the eager responses, anything to support the claims?
Some sort of comparison reviews? I tried to find one and failed to find any with numbers (besides the $195 lol)

Responses are a lot stronger than i initially anticipated, perhaps there's some truth to it. I'm now eager to find out more myself.:naughty:

The thing is, the quality in construction is just so good.

I can always nitpick with my other lights, whether it be the threads, or weak ano... but my SF's are just far superior.

I didn't understand what all of the hype was about until I forked out and bought one... now it's hard to go back.

You also have to put into account that it is a completely subjective thing, and you really have to try one out yourself to be able to say yes or no.

I own all of the lights in this discussion and therefore, I have strong opinions based on what I know. Not on what my preferences persuade me to presume.

Perfectly stated. I own 'other' lights, too. I go back to the M20 as a comparison, because on 'specs', it beats the LX2, but in truth, in the 'real world' when I am out walking in pitch dark (with no meters and specs don't matter) the LX2 has more throw, a better beam, better beam tint, and although the spill doesn't have the defined edge limit, it is easier to view objects at the edge of the beam since the transition from darkness into the beam is much more smooth and gradual.
I have a Jetbeam, a Novatac, HAD an Olight M30 (sold it), the Eagletac M2XC4, couple of Quarks, Maglite - my list is in the signature line - and they are all fine lights in their own rights.

When first reading this forum as totally unenlightened, thinking that the Maglite was the height of flashlights, it seemed to me that all these folks had lost their mind. The thought of spending $50 was crazy to me - but $200 for a 'simple flashlight?' But, loving quality 'toys', I gave in and bought an M20 first - see here. It was great - several posts and lights later...but still no Surefire. Oh, I thought about it. But never broke down, until... and I gushed about it.
Later, it became an obsession. I don't like wasting money, and quality is important to me. When you read the postings of military personnel and LEOs and most of them are intent on buying equipment that their lives might depend on, you tend to believe what they say. As for me, I had miscellaneous thoughts about it.
So I ended up buying 5 Surefires in one month.

Blah blah. I am/was hooked. Many SFs still to own, but the one I didn't seem to 'get' was the T1A. $240 for 70-80 lumens in a pocket light? Have you all lost your minds!!?

I guess I finally lost mine, too.
Surefire - it is a sickness.

It occurs to me that the members of this forum are well above average intelligence and most depend on their flashlights for more than just the occasional source of lighting. I doubt you'd find this much passion about something like this if there weren't legitimate facts backing up the passion.

So, in spite of the fact that I still like my Novatac, my Quarks, my Jetbeam, my Olight, my Eagletac, my Wolf Eyes, my Fenix, my Maglite, blah blah - and I still want an Ra Clicky 170 Executive EDC, the Surefires are my favorites for their quality and their user interfaces. And that little T1A has an amazing interface and the lowest low transitioning to a flood of room filling light - VERY useful. And someday, an M6 will join my collection.

Berry580, I understand your questions and perhaps even your doubts - they are logical based upon specs and pricing - but I respectfully suggest that you give it a try. This might be a great place to start. You might be surprised. If not, you haven't lost much and acquired a great little light in the process.

Wow, am I glad I bought the LX2 as my first light. Since I have gotten it I have not been glued to the CPF marketplace and the web shopping for lights. I think the LX2 was the cure!

dw, i am planning to get a SF (at least before i die lol), but i'd very likely get one for drop-ins, probably a C2. Whats holding me back MAINLY to get non-P60 compatiable SFs is that all SF lights exclusively use CR123A, otherwise expect a huge drop in performance which i despise.
and thank you run4jc, your talk was inspirational.
