High Energy Weapon Tested Successfully - Article

Reuters says it shot down the missile but it doesn't sound like this is true if you read Boeing's quote. The missile had sensors and verified a hit. This sounds like big laser tag to me. "The plane's battle management system issued engagement and target location instructions to the laser's...

DIY Smaller than Larry Light CR2: A 14250 light measures 49.5x16.5mm

I already have a few GDP on the way. I was not planning on going direct drive due to short runtimes. Now that you mention 300ish lumens in a sub 50mm light that may change. If I do shorten an E07, running direct drive may be inevitable due to the 14250. I can always do some destructive testing...

DIY Smaller than Larry Light CR2: A 14250 light measures 49.5x16.5mm

ma sha1 I have officially caught the bug  I have a Tank E07 and have 3 more on the way to play with. I found a high bin version of the Golden Dragon Plus to replace the original Golden Dragon. The specs say this emitter is 123lm at 350ma. If shipping from cutter werent so high I would...

XPG R5 in NiteCore EZ CR2 Clone

Hey ma_sha1 how well does the XENO 14250 cell work? I thought they were rated at a very low discharge rate like 50mAh. I have been thinking about cutting an E07 down and using a 14250. I am glad to see the XP-G works well in this. I may use that or go with an Osram Golden Dragon Plus for more...

Need help with driver & star for tripple XP-G

I assume you are talking about the MTBR DIY light forum? There is a wealth of knowledge between this place and MTBR so I have been doing my research. Do you guys have any better ideas for housing than a steer tube? I found DX sku 13741 but its a bit bigger than I was looking for.

Driver for 3x XP-G in series

I'm still a n00b here but why you couldn't use a lithium polymer battery if you need a high discharge rate. There are tons of lithium polymer 2000mAh 7.2v packs that have 40+ amp continuous discharge rates. Runtimes may be short but at least you will get much closer to the rated capacity.

Need help with driver & star for tripple XP-G

This would be for MTB use on a helmet. I would like to keep weight low, size small, and efficiency high. I realize using the 10507 with an XP-G will produce a wider beam than with an XP-E. I may end up using DX parts as my first build and then try something more advanced.

Need help with driver & star for tripple XP-G

Thanks I would have never guessed that's what I am looking for based on the part number.

Need help with driver & star for tripple XP-G

My goal is to make an efficient & light weight bike light. I am thinking about going with triple emitters for better l/w. I really like the Carclo 10507 optics from cutter but I don't know where to find a triple XP-G R5 star or suitable driver. My power source would likely be 2x 18650.

    Quark Mini 123 runtime - CR123 vs. RCR123

I found runtime information on CR vs. RCR at this review http://www.light-reviews.com/4sevens_quark_mini_cr123/ The primary lithium has over twice the runtime on medium. Output on the rechargeable is a staggering 255 Lumens but you need to watch out for overheating  The AA version goes...

    Quark Mini 123 runtime - CR123 vs. RCR123

I finally found a thread with the info I was looking for. It has capacity at several discharge rates as well as actual battery dimensions. http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?t=195712 I wonder if 4sevens has tweaked the battery tube since psychbeat says his Ultrafire rcr123...

    Quark Mini 123 runtime - CR123 vs. RCR123

Thanks for the info guys. I am still leaning toward the Mini 123 instead of the AA. I think it will be the perfect pocket sized light. After reading a bit more it looks like there are a few protected 123 batteries that may fit. Officially 4sevens says the light does not support 3.6v however...

    Quark Mini 123 runtime - CR123 vs. RCR123

Hello I am seriously considering the Quark Mini 123 but I would like to know what kind of runtimes/lumens to expect on 3.6v rechargable RCR123 versus 3.0v lithium CR123. From everything I have read a good lithium 123 is about 4w where as a rechargeable 123 is 2.5-3w. Does the increased voltage...

Long running single AA torch for 3yr old son

Why not make them charge their own light with a crank like the energizer weather ready? They are currently about $10 at walmart. Your kids may have even more fun with the crank and you will never have to charge them.

Headlamp or Shoulder strap mount for backpack?

Instead of a Headlamp has anyone tried mounting a standard flashlight to the shoulder strap of a backpack? The main disadvantage would be the light doesn't follow where your head is pointing. An advantage would be that you could remove the light and use it as a hand held. I would rather carry...
