Roland, yep Fenix L2D Q5 is a fantastic torch IMHO and if i was doing a trip longer than 2 days and wanted to keep the weight down i would just take this and a couple of keyring lights (photon type) for back up. Bigger thrower is just more fun!
I'd probably only take a larger torch for short...

Just got a white 360 extreme krill to use as a nightlight for my 2 yr old. It does the job very well!
Can't use a plug in nightlight as he tends to climb out of bed and may play with the electrics. So a battery operated krill is perfect. He tends to break things fairly easy too, so it being so...
Any way, back to plastic.......The TK20 might be nice but i suspect a plastic light may be cheeper!
Asdalton, thanks for pionting me towards Bright star responders. Never come across these before. Flashlightreviews really rates this well for throw. Anyone any experience of these?
QIP, thanks for the tip about the TK20 and links. I must admit i saw the light a while back on the Fenix website and dismissed it as another 2AA fenix when i have an L2D. I didn't realise just how big this thing is, and what a difference the focussing ability makes. I was thinking about getting...
HKJ, thanks for the pic's - really demonstrates your piont about the size of the reflectors. I'll have to look into Dereelights, not sure if i can get them in the UK without importing from the US and getting stung heavily by the taxman. Also, by the look of that head it might actually be too big...
I know the TK20 is not a plastic torch but is it more likely to have better throw than a TK10/11? If i was going down this root wouldn't the TK11 or 10 be better for throw with its larger reflector? Or is the focussing option best for throw?
Also, for propoly's: which is best for throw lux or...
Many moons ago i trekked across Dartmoor (a fairly desolate moor in the UK) with a good friend of mine. As it was the days before tactical flashlights and high powered LED's (and me being corrupted by CPF!) he was armed only with a trusty mini mag and myself with a cheap plastic torch (i think a...
Is it worth getting a P3D when i already have an L2D-Q5. I'd consider it if it gave me more throw. Is the extra lumens any more noticeable (215 vs 180) or should i just go for a TK11?
Can i reserrect this thread........any one else got any thoughts on how they compare? I'm after a light weight (plastic) 3c torch with decent throw. Which thows the best out of these 2 and has the best beam? Nice and rugged for outdoor use as well
I've got an L2D Q5 (under £50), brought it here in the UK at: http://www.thephotonshop.co.uk/
Uses standard AA's (alkaline or rechargeable...it actually likes rechargables even better!). It has a strobe but personally i'd just use the turbo mode on it. This thing is bright (approx 185 lumens)...
