I guess I never considered the offset style headlamps - basically a normal flashlight with the LED and cone rotated 90deg. All the headlamps I have are symmetrical boxes that tilt. Are there any distinct advantages those of you that use them have found? From a form factor they aren't much...
I picked up a Black Diamond Storm last year in looking for a better headlamp. Quality and functionality wise it is a good unit, however the brightest setting doesn't work out in the woods.
For comparison I have a Fenix PD35 that I ran on level 3 in the woods. Around camp it was great. I didn't...
That is a good question... I am not sure if the buoys are reflective. I would imagine they are. In hazardous areas the buoys/markers are big triangles or squares. I would imagine these would be, I'm not real sure about the small path markers though. All but the large rock/point markers are red...
That is some good info. I never really thought about putting numbers to what I am after, but that is good thinking.
As far as speed - the one boat I have been using does about 24mph. I'm looking at another one that will do 40+. As far as navigating goes - I'd like to have enough lighting...
Power is 12v. I'd rather not have the current too high, but a few amps would be OK, maybe less than 10.
Mounting - they would be overhead about 7' off the deck. I don't have any exact mounting ideas in mind, but some kind of bar over top would probably be what I do - plus there would be radio...
I am looking in to some lights for a boat. Most of what I have found pertains to deck lighting and underwater lighting. What I am looking for are lights I can turn on to light up the way at night. Our lake is rocky, can be confined in several places, and I'd like to be able to see adequately. I...
I am starting to ride a bike some more here and have a couple Fenix PD35's to use. One I have been using on a bar mount I made from duct tape and it doesn't hold real well - moves around (clip on the light holds it fine, but tape is too floppy).
I am looking at the mount that Fenix makes. Any...
Re: Ordering another PD35, Batteries????
Thanks for the info Chris. I may look in to those and add them to the collection. Now I have 2 18650 lights and looking for another at some point (this time a longer thrower than the PD35's). Is there a 16340 equivalent of the NCR-B 3400mAh cells?
I am curious as to how strong the clips are on various LED lights in the single 16340 to single 18650 range. What do you have to compare? What lights have you bent the clips on? What lights after a long time of use still hold tight and strong?
To base an analysis off of: I'm on my second Fenix...
Re: Ordering another PD35, Batteries????
I misread the product description on the batteries - it has a picture of 2, but only one battery $17. I think that might have been a bit of a steep price, but too late now.
I'd be curious if there are any multi-unit pack discounts out there for other...
Light capacity-wise, the EC1 is more than capable for my lighting situations. I have used it in a tail-stand mode, clipped to things, etc. to get a better flood affect for the area I am working in. However, I have to run it on high for what I am doing = eats up the battery quicker. From what I...
I lost my EC1 last week in a (harvested) corn field. Once I knew I lost it I paced the part of the field I was in a couple of times with no luck. So my last resort was to hit the field at night and hope I could spot the indicator light. After a half an hour retracing my steps where I was outside...
There is such a device called a "Joule Thief". Google it. It essentially takes a low voltage device and boosts it. How it works I don't entirely know but the circuit sort of reminded me of a Tesla Coil. This could be the same principal that your "charger" uses.
Re: Ordering another PD35, Batteries????
Well since I've had OK luck with the Fenix 2600mAh 18650's I ordered a pack of 2 along with the light. It just can't get here fast enough... :)
The EC1 I lost has a red indicator light that is always on... I'm thinking of going back to where I was real...
Ordering another PD35, Batteries????
I am ordering a replacement PD35 while mine is off getting repaired, and I lost my EC1 today that I've been carrying in the mean time... so I need another light.
The question: Batteries.
The kit I got last time has the Fenix 2600mAh 18650. From what I...
