Just tested my e1b and it takes no more than 2 seconds to go from hi mode to hi mode, 3 - 3.5 seconds seems way to long. you should exchange it or get it checked out.
Instead of spending more money on a new bezel, you may have to get a little creative and sand the drop-in down (the end where you remove the outer spring).

As everyone else stated, Malkoff drop-in is the way to go. Which model you choose depends on the application, either max lumens or longer runtime
