Well, like I said I didn't find the output to be pathetic. Its super easy to put a diffrent led into it with a small piece of scrap proto board. Its the solder connection which when screwed hits the battery. I found it to be cool- your not going to climb mount everest with it, its for keys or...- ott

I bought from the AA souce you mentioned and it turned out that they us 4- ag13 batteries. The light is pretty bright (on the white side), my kids where arguing with me which was brighter the stock one or a mod with brightest Nichia. Of course Nichia won IMHO The aluminum is pretty cool. Best Battery Configuration for 5W?
The other colors are rated for much longer life span. How about a ring of of 48 white Nichia's mounted on the perimeter of a (reflective) aluminum heatsink/shell housing a 5W cyan. Would the Nichia's be noticable? This could be driven in a couple of combinations to save battery. Power to...- ott
