I bought them from somebody in the dealer forum, I've forgotten who now. CS are pretty bright and rugged but very blue/brown in tint.
Congrats on the mod ! I've had tons of fun making little flashlight mods like that. I made a PR base gizmo with the Zetex converter and an SSC led - really...
There was a huge thread on here someplace about the Zetex ZXSC300 which dates back a couple of years now - might have been archived. I think Digikey still sells them and the FMMT617 transistor that goes with it. I built mine from scratch out of .015" raw PCB material and the required 4 or 5...
I bought one of these AAA "FL110C" lights a while back. The circuit in the stock light is the so called "Joule Thief" - single transistor with a tapped inductor which explains the three inductor wires. Its a great little circuit for extracting the last bit of juice from your batteries since it...
Just got mine today, the 100 lumen version. I'm very pleased with it. I was hoping it would be as bright as my Ultrafire WF602A that I modded with an SSC led. The MTE Rebel blows it away !
Build quality is pretty good - a bit of gunk in the threads but they do have lube. Glass lens. Cheezy...
Its a guesstimate. Input I measured at 180ma, 2 cells is 2.8v or so under load, so output of the regulator at 85 % efficiency is something like 120ma at 3.6v. No problem with heat since the Cree is way under its power limit. It barely warms up.

I just modded a similar light (Dealextreme "Raket") with a Cree. I didn't have to raise the led since the head/reflector will screw down over the emitter on this light. The Raket has a 1 ohm dropper for the stock Lux knockoff in it. I bypassed the resistor and got a big increase in output with...
The stock Enduro/River Rock has a fairly tight spot that throws pretty well. Not a huge amount of spill but lots to see where you are walking. Its a terrific little headlamp for the money even without the mod. The beam on the modded light is similar but much brighter and whiter. My stock light...
Just got a WF602A1 "Vippa" from Dealextreme today and I can also confirm this is a nicely made light. I have no "bad" ones to compare to but this one has good build quality, no gunk in threads, GID that works and a reliable switch. So far the only picky little things are a very slightly...
For those on a budget check out this Cree mod to the River Rock/ Streamlight Enduro headlamp:

$15 headlamp + $7 Cree Emitter. It works quite well.

Cree mod makes this terrific little headlamp even better:

Not a beginner's mod but well worth the effort IMHO.

"That Streamlight Enduro (what ringzero linked) looks great ... and nice and cheap too!
Wonder how it'd go with a higher flux LED....

I modded my Enduro with a Cree:

The enduro is a great backpacking light stock...
The O ring on mine was well lubed with silicone grease or something and its held up well to a lot of removal/replacement. I should probably re-lube it to keep the thing waterproof.
The Enduro is a great little headlamp. I almost bought a PT EOS but the Enduro is smaller, lighter, cheaper and...
I bought a Streamlight Enduro (RiverRock headlamp) after reading all the positive comments on it here. Its a great little headlamp - lightweight, good battery life, decent light output and inexpensive. My main issue with it is the very blue tint, plus it can ALWAYs be brighter so I set about...
If you do a search on MJLED there is a nice graph in a thread comparing Vf of several popular 5mm leds including the original MJLED. From my own experiments I found the SMLED Vf to be very similar. I think you'll find its around 3v at 100ma.

I thought of trying an smjled in mine (Streamlight Enduro, same as RR) to get a whiter beam. As an experiment I held the headlamp reflector over an SMJLED - a tad whiter but not a big difference. The smjled might run a bit brighter and more efficiently since it has 4 LED die on it vs what...
