Budget DIY strobe?

I have an Olympus TG5, and to buy an Olympus Strobe would cost £379 plus £104 for a short arm and another £109 for a fibre optic cable.... a total of £592 for the full set up. A more reasonable Sea and Sea Ys-03 option is still £325 for a kit. But eBay will sell me a range of Speedlight clones...

    Macro Ring Light

Here is a 'handy' accessory I just made that allows me to 'digitally' reduce the output from one sector.........:thumbsdow........I know it is bad but just could not resist. ...and it does work. . More seriously, just stick some black tape on, if you do not like it, peel it off half way...

Here are some links to photos of my Mk 2. I have reduced the bolts to 4 and used embedded helicoils instead of through bolts. https://photos.app.goo.gl/p7CjcPedTysydWBs8 https://photos.app.goo.gl/DaGFQ3Jh2ut2ar7Q7 https://photos.app.goo.gl/vAHM5r22K15SL48s6...

    Macro Ring Light

Hi Guys, tanks for your interest and sorry to be so slow to reply. Unfortunately I am more of a snapper than photographer, I do not have any social media feeds and whist I have dozens of photos I would gleefully share I think the moderators might object if I used this forum to show off my...

    Macro Ring Light

Thanks. The Flamboyant Cuttlefish was 2 or max 3 inches overall which seems to be standard for that species. Cuttlefish are a novelty to me and most we saw on this trip (to Lembeh) were much smaller, just a half or one inch. The circuit board was engraved using my minimill which I have recently...

    Macro Ring Light

Here is my take on a macro ring light. The concept is not new but for me need and availability have handily come together. I just bought an Olympus TG5 and housing; two of its features are super close macro and a fast frame rate, up to 20 fps. I do not have strobes but it is evident that no...

    Scatchbuilt Canister torch

to str8stroke Glad you like it. Here is an exploded view of an earlier prototype, the principal difference being that the led was mounted on a pill and therefore not as well cooled. The 'handle' is in two parts. [/IMG] Canister lights are generally favoured by those who switch their lights...

    Scatchbuilt Canister torch

The attached sketch should help, please note it is only my working sketch and not a third angle or construction drawing. Referring to the top of the lamp as the end the light comes out off, the bottom of the the magnet ring (black acetate) has 8 dimples drilled into it, equally spaced. The...

    Scatchbuilt Canister torch

Here is my scratchbuilt canister light. I made this to suit my idea of the ideal light for my kind of Scottish diving. TIR optic from DX XP-L V6 in cool white DX 5 mode driver (sku162784) 4Px2S battery pack, 8.4 Ah Hall effect switch with magnet ring My aim has been to produce a torch that...

    Some tests on Chinese Drivers

I am in the process of building a canister light proposing a 2SxP pack. I wanted a 22mm driver to run at somewhere above 2.5amp for a single XM-L. Checking out available drivers from KD and DX my first choice was the “KD Super Output SSC P7 LED Driver Board” as the simple three modes appealed...
