    I would just get some under cabinet T5 fluorescents. Home Depot sells some "premium" metal ones from GE that offer a high CRI. They come on instantly and will provide enough light for you.

    I purchase AA based flashlights because I get AA batteries free at work. Everyone at work carries AA lights for that reason.
