Sweet! She still hasn't responded to me yet, I'm waiting to see if she's willing to drop a 3500k 519A into a stainless Capitan, I think that woukd be the most rugged general EDC form factor light for me, with the ability to run AA AND AAA with an adapter.

I also the believe that the 519A puts out slightly more lumens per watt than the alleged xpg3 that's in there now, and has a better CCT and tint to boot...Credit where it's due, though, while the light is kind of dim on a NiMH due in part to all the streetlights recently replaced with some very -duv pinkish 3800k LED, in a very light-deficient area it might do well. Great runtime off an alkaleak so far, a couple to a few hours on max, a few more around 20 lumens, and a looooong gradual taper from 5 to 1ish lumens. it has been on 1ish lumen for almost a day now, I keep expecting it to just fade to black any moment now.

I imagine that the Eigers will have roughly 1/3 the runtime in all aspects, but are WAY more pocketable.
 
I can not say for sure however I feel like Peak is still only made up of Robyn and a machinist known as Curt. Again I may be way off on this however I do not think Peak was ever a huge business. This is what makes them actually so incredible is the sheer amount of lights they have provided, the length of time they have been doing it and also doing this while being so small. I also think I remember it was always a family run business and Curt was somehow related to Robyn.

I have no custom stuff on the order I just placed as I think it is much faster, and easier on the staff if it is just plug and play with what they have in stock. I will not complain if their is a long wait as again I think it is all being done by one man. Peak may be slow today however Robyn has always been excellent to deal with and Peak does always eventually deliver.

I feel many more recent members would not notice Peak as much as the older crowd. I have many fond memories when Peak was starting up and back then they were a real (and the only) threat to the ARC AAA. In my opinion Peak was just as good and their potted heads were the best in the business back then and still are today in my opinion.

I actually have been on night shift by choice for 30 years now. I really like working nights for several reasons. I have no children so it is just easier to stay on nights and My wife is ok with it as well. I am the Sgt. on the shift and as long as everything is smooth I can go months and never see the higher ups. The biggest problem is life in general. Life is designed around day shift and as such night people struggle. If I want to do anything such as attend a class, doctors appt, cut the grass, or pretty much anything other than work I have to stay awake after I get off.

This is why I actually miss working nights. After midnight no one wants anything from you. It was so peaceful on my days off. Plus all the good movies are on after midnight.
 
Several pages back I mentioned working with Robyn testing a few prototypes for police work. It took me some time however I found them. They came with various body configurations and were pretty simple and absolutely tough as could be back then. These were the first prototypes and they made several small changes and for a while and actually had many larger duty style lights on their site.

I have no idea what emitter was used nor any details on the circuit yet they still work to this day. One is a fixed brightness on a single high output while the other has the dimming control knob. Kind of quirky however it did work well. I believe I tested these for about two months and Robyn let me keep them. As far as I know they are one off prototypes and a little part of Peak history.

Sorry I know these are not AAA and may not fit in this thread however some may get a kick out of seeing a different side of Peak.

is that a kroll switch? lol. the right looks like a luxeon, the triple looks like ssc...p4's maybe? but my screen is all the way down, my eyes are tired, and my brain feels like day old deceased shellfish
 
Yes I had a couple of the very old larger Peaks with Kroll switches. I always wanted one of those with the variable dial in steel, but mine were the single output types (and anodized aluminum). I think mine had an optic instead of a reflector, if I'm remembering correctly....

Ha DC38 that is indeed a Kroll switch and these were all the rage back then. Gives you an idea as to how old these are. I believe you are correct about Curt being her Uncle. This also gives us an idea as to how old Curt is and he is still popping out lights. I have no idea how their set up is currently however when they first started up they did much of their machine work in house. I think they sourced out the circuit boards, lenses, switches and other bits however Curt played a big part in all their actual design work.

They had several AAA versions over the years and honestly I feel that is what they sold the most of. I think they have shrunk down to only 3 options now simply to keep things simple and faster to produce. I have several AAA Peaks already however I have none of their AA and CR123 version. I am pretty excited about my recent order as I bought two each of the AA and cr123 versions.
 
I have found that my poorest quality flashlight has the ability to output light at voltages less than any other light I own.

So far I know it will fire on 0.6 volts. I’m yet unsure of the exact lowest it will start out at but after the light went out I pulled the alkileak and it was a solid 0.3 volts with no voltage sag recovery.

This light was attached to a key I used intermittently for several years and it was mostly to try and prevent losing the key not for the light itself.

I’m unsure where the light came from but I remember cleaning the corrosion out of it and was able to get it working. With a fresh cell it outputs around 5-8 lumens and at 0.6 volts maybe 0.25-0.5 lumen.

Makes me kinda see if I could find a Fenix E01 or a Sofirn C01/s. I’ve seen the ARC on the “bay” but I don’t want one that bad.

These 2 are very different, but both OUTSTANDING! After having a couple nights to play with them I am sufficiently impressed. The Eiger Ultra throws more than any other AAA I own. The Sapphire is perfect for my old eyes reading a menu while out to dinner.

Don't leave the battery in that N-cell light for too long, unused. I hear the N-cells are far more prone to leaking than cheap AAA alkalines are.

I switched all of my N-cells to NiMH several years ago, but apparently these have now become difficult to find.

I'm curious, was a cell included with your new flashlight (and was it NiMH, or alkaline) ?

There was another thread recently where we were discussing N-cells, and I think the OP there managed to find some NiMH versions online (of uncertain quality)

I should charge and recheck the ones I have, since they have been idle for a while. Unfortunately mine were not "low self-discharge" type, so they do end up draining whether I use them or not.

You mean the Peanut XL from Maratac?
Yeah, I assumed it was a single-AAA.
Turns out, 10180 lithium, instead.
And yes, it was included with the light.
