The SureFire 6PX/G2X Tactical and 6PX/G2X Pro Thread

Help Support Candle Power:

Is it normal not to have a spring soldered into the circuit?
It's a G2x Tactical "C" 320lm with Nichia LED, tailcap twist.

I would be very thankful to anyone who could help with photos.

Looks like the G2X Tactical has been discontinued.
On the Surefire website it only has G2X LE, G2X Pro, 6PX Pro and 6PX Tactical.
So it’s G2ZX from now on for single mode nitrolon users.

The first G2Xs produced with 200 lumens didn’t have a spring. The spring was introduced with the 320 lumens model. Maybe yours is a really early 320.
It’s not an issue on the Tactical as I believe the spring was introduced to stop mode changes on the Pro model when the light was bumped/knocked.

Thank you! I confirmed that the first 320 lumen models did indeed come without.
A friend has a G2x Pro 320 lumens Forest Green and his doesn't have the spring either.

I finally decided to get the G2x pro 320 lumens and got it yesterday. But mine does not have dual springs. The inside looks somewhat different from yours. Btw, how on earth did you open the head??? I can't open mine...
Quote from post 915 on p46 of this thread (July 2013).
320 lumen models were introduced in the autumn of 2012 - see p40, post 788 onwards.
The first 9 months or so of production seem to be without the dual springs.

Can any G2X expert please help with approximately production year for this light?
The serial number or batch number “E184207” on the head is only included on 600 lumen lights produced from early 2018 onwards. So your light is 8 years old or less.
I think the 600 lumen ones use an XP-L led.
I’m not an expert, but I’ve often read this thread over the years. Loads of good info.

So the one they produce today is exactly the same?

To the best of my knowledge your light should be the same as current production.
They have the same specs on paper. It should be a G2X pro (two mode) 15/600 lumens.

Just discovered my G2x Pro (D A196963) will run 2xAA with a 1x123 extension.

2xL91 = Yes
2xAlkaleak = Yes
2xLadda Nimh = No

Hopefully the driver Surefire uses is similar enough to the Malkoff M91T, which is surprisingly efficient on 2xAA.

Have you tried it with a 16650?

I haven’t had the chance to compare the output of 16650 vs 2x123’s in any iteration of G2x. I’ll have some time later this week to compare. I’m guessing a fresh 16650 would output around 425 lumens. Unfortunately I don’t remember how much draw the modes have.

600 or 425 is not so big difference to the eyes. I would guess that runtime is quite similar?
