I wish Surefire still made the U2 with modern electronics. 5-1500 lumens with 10 levels and an 18650 would be perfect.
I'm not sure when Chapman/Leonard stopped producing their LensLight, but those seem to have disappeared, unfortunately.

what was the original battery system? Multiple CR123s in a carrier? The Fenix TK45 "Gatling chain-light".
The handle size would fit a 46800 battery with barely any modifications.

I had a Fenix like that — I’m not sure what the number was (TKXX) but it was an 8xAA driving a single MCE quad-die in a big shallow reflector. A terrific light for its time (2008?), but the 8xAA format is not as good as a single hi-capacity Li-ion.8xaa in a carrier. I have a tk41, the single xml/reflector version
I think that one was the predecessor to the 41, the tk40. IMO, the TK40 has WAY better styling including the knurling, and general rugged feel.I had a Fenix like that — I’m not sure what the number was (TKXX) but it was an 8xAA driving a single MCE quad-die in a big shallow reflector. Well, at least they continue to produce Dominator))Specifically speaking, SureFire Digital 2 Ultra (U2).
But fixed! None of that DOA nonsense!
None of that "Worked fine for a few days, but now won't work at all." $#&%!
SureFire never fixed it! They just discontinued the model.
Also it was decades ahead of its time! Bring it back, fixed!
Increase the spacing. One lumen, up to 1200 lumens out the front.
Fenix has such a model. But it's bulky, and lacks a tailcap switch. Twist only.
They redesigned it awhile ago, but still no tailcapswitch.
Bring back the U2 but make it better, and make it WORK!!!
No, no irony. In any case, after a bunch of letters and a video from my friend, where he disassembled the Dominator battery pack, after about 5 years, they finally updated it - they put normal 26650 and SBT90 inside instead of the somewhat outdated CBT90. Perhaps we should periodically write to SF tech support about the new generation of U2, like U2X or U2T or some cool abbreviated name. But without the goodwill of their leadership, a good outcome is unlikely((The irony? I got sick & tired of waiting! Not getting any younger. After putting it off for years, finally pulled the trigger on that Fenix model I mentioned earlier in this topic. SureFire isn't releasing a modern-day U2, and Fenix has clearly no desire to toss a tailcap switch onto their version.

No but thank youOne of these is currently for sale on that auction site if you’re interested in spending 8 bills.
...I thought I had added photos here, but apparently I forgot about it. Well, here they are:Fenix TK76 + battery extenders ("AER-TK75 extended runtime kit").

Ah, yes, the "gatling gun"-light. You got good taste, my good sir (well, I already knew you had that). The Fenix TK45 "Gatling chain-light".

It was a fun gimmicky form factor, especially the "cycling" emitters when you used Eco mode.

I think many of Fenix's customers have discovered their less than satisfactory customer service and have opted to go in other directions. I know they will never see another dime from me again. It's sad that it has been many long years since Fenix came out with anything innovative or new. Yes, a couple of new models here and there. But almost zero improvements to older, existing lights.
Besides the TK41, I'm not sure if I've ever purchased a Fenix firsthand...I think many of Fenix's customers have discovered their less than satisfactory customer service and have opted to go in other directions. I know they will never see another dime from me again.

And I will argue that more features on an existing or new model is not necessarily an improvement. It's mostly just been brighter, more powerful units of their existing lights. No interesting or special designs - like the TK-models of old. I look at the current TK-series (15 lights), and I can't tell the difference between any of them at a glance (except maybe the TK28R). The TK45 / TK76 were both arguably headturners in comparison. It's sad that it has been many long years since Fenix came out with anything innovative or new.
