Can you comment at all on what wattage of bulb these would be equivalent to? I'm looking for an amber bulb to use as a porch light. Currently using a 40w bug bulb that burns out every other month. I'm guessing that an amber luxeon should put out comparable output after you consider the light loss through the bug bulb's coating.

I have no idea how to measure it to compare...

I'm guessing that the regular base bulb is putting out as much light as a 5 or 10 watt incandescent bulb at most.

Two 110V LED bulbs - Nightlight base and normal base. Not all that bright, but really cool colors...

First, obligatory :bow::bow: and a big :thanks: for all your hard work on FLR over the years.

I recently bought a couple of the "white" EliteLED nightlight replacement bulbs with the E12 base. Although they put out less light than a standard 4W incan bulb, the overall light is more pleasing to my eyes, precisely because they appear almost light blue in color. I remember reading (here I think) that our eyes are more sensitive to blue colors when the light source is not bright.

I am wondering, though, about longevity. Have you been using these bulbs since you wrote this review back in January of 2006? If so, have any of them burned out, or perhaps gotten so dim as to be no longer useful? Would you still recommend them today, or have you found better LED bulbs since that time?

I have started using the 1 watt bulb (warm white) as night lights.I do not like the cool blue LEDs in LED nite lites and they tend to dim to uselless in 6 to 12 months.

In the bedroom I have one in a metal can uplight doing a ceiling bounce. This is a little brighter than I need but the metal can stops me looking directly at the bulb and I can fall asleep no problem.

In the kitchen I have one in an open fixture so the light illuminates the kitchen, dinning room and half the hallway to my bedroom. There is enough light to pour myself a dlass of milk as well as not trip over the furniture.

The base of the bulb is a little warmer than the base of LED nite lites. By comparison the heatsink of the 3xCree (3 warr) household bulb sold by the same company ls HOT to the touch. So hot I have to wait for it to cool down before unscrewing it from the socket. So the power supply on this one is much more efficient.

Might try the vight light bulb someday. Have to find a nite lite without the auto on sensor. LED bulb power supplies do not get along with dimmer switches/auto sensing circuits.

Very interesting. That appears to be the same bulb reviewed by FLR at:

The photo of the warm white bulb shown there (at FLR) looks very nice indeed. There are other photos of the different colors available at the sellers web page.

Are these the night lights you are referring to? Or are you just discussing your past experiences with other LED night lights that dimmed rapidly?

These are the ones I am using:

and were reviewed by FLR at:

I am using the "cool white" LED bulbs, and they do have a heavy blue tint, as I mentioned above, but they are also just the right brightness for the locations I put them. There is also a "warm white" version, which I may try in the future. For me, almost anything is better than the sickly yellow standard 4W incan bulbs which constantly burn out. My concern is whether these particular LED night light bulbs might dim rapidly, as many 5mm LEDs are known to do, thus necessitating frequent changes (thereby partially defeating the purpose of switching from standard 4W bulbs to LEDs).

I was considering ordering some of these Maxxima night lights. These are not just bulbs, as they come with the housing, which has an "auto on" sensor:

I think the FLR and The_led_museum reviews are of the same 1 watt bulb - they just got different colours.

Most of the LED nite lites I got from local stores and one of them has the sailing boat decoration of the EliteLED site.
The ones I like best are similar to these.

I got mine at Walmart Canada. As you can see from the picture there is a diffuser stick that redirects the light horizontally.

Now I know the EliteLED night light bulb is
surface mount LED instead of a 5mm and
is available in warm white
I will probably get 1 or 2 for where I cannot plug in an E27 fixture (bathroom).

We have a few of these around the house.

Now that I think about it they probably have become dimmer over time but I feel they still put out enough light for those times when you're up and about during the night.

I do intend to purchase more of the same as time goes by. It is so nice not to have to worry about keeping a supply of 4 watt bulbs!

I can now answer my own question with respect to longevity. The EliteLED nightlight bulbs I purchased are still going strong after being in use for 18 months straight. You can read more details in this post:

https://www.candlepowerforums.com/posts/2665409#post2665409

NB: There are numerous reports of inexpensive nightlight bulbs with a similar design but with very poor quality. In fact, the handful of nightlight bulbs I bought from Wal-Mart were too dim to be useful after only 3 or 4 months (and two of them burnt out completely).
