Am new here. Anyone know who sells the most powerful handheld spotlight in the world? I've seen the 1 Northern Tool has and it's 25 million CP. Anyone seen any brighter?

Welcome to CPF, you've come to the right place if you're looking for the brightest. I'm not familiar with that particular light, but I have no doubt there's a brighter one.

Candlepower is used to measure 'throw' of the light more than output (lumens). So technically, seeing the candlepower of the light does not equate to its brightness.

Also, a lot of manufacturer's like to throw numbers at you to bewilder you and sucker you into parting with your coin.

Are you looking for a light for use? Or just asking what's the most powerful handheld spotlight in the world?

There was a similar thread recently :-

The most powerful handheld light will most probably be HID or short-arc.. and I still think the Megaray 175w is one of the top.

Don't be fooled by some of those "candlepower" figures you see and hear about - they are mostly exaggerated, sometimes hugely so.

The most powerful commercially available spotlight is the short-arc MaxaBeam. There are a number of good threads with pics and descriptions of what it can do – it has a pencil beam and can illuminate objects brightly further than a mile away.

An alternative to the MaxaBeam, with similar characteristics, is the Supernova (beware though – there is more than one light with this name).

The most powerful in terms of output is probably the Barnburner, a 75W HID. LEDcandle has given you a link to that in post #3 above. It isn't a true spotlight, but it makes almost every other light look feeble.

Modified Maglites are another category, and some of these are startling. They aren't spotlights, but the hottest of the hotwires are stunningly powerful, and if you have a look at this thread you'll get an idea of why they are so popular.

You should also look at Nitro's thread about throw, with beamshots of some of the lights mentioned here, including the Maxabeam.

The ULTIMATE handheld spotlight is a one-off, using a mercury-arc, made by CPFer Ra. It is called the MaxaBlaster, and it can illuminate objects ~6 miles away!

Yes, welcome to CPF!! One light which was not mentioned was the Tank light which is not a brand name but an actual Tank light which has been customized and now mounted and moved via a trailer. If you are serious and read (somewhat extensively!) you will come across terms such as "lumens", "forward voltage", "hotwires" and "EDC"---"Every Damn Cent"---this last one referring to what it costs to be involved in this hobby! Enjoy as you read...and collect...and keep a divorce laywer on hand for the inevitable!! Ha!
