Fellow CPFer and all around good guy "Srvctec" found these at his local Lowes. You got it, it's a hose nozzle with a flashlight built in. Well it sounded like just the thing for midnight carwashes  So he was nice enough to send me a few since my Lowes didn't have them.

They run off AAx2, and have a bi-pin bulb similar to a Mini-Mag. Terrible color and horrendous beam :sick2: :(

So I thought  how about we "rewire it" with an SMJLED (thanks Lambda)

Progressively enlarge the hole in the reflector up to 15/64ths

Trim the leads down to 1/8th of an inch for the proper focus

Slip your reflector down over the SMJLED

And turn this :eeew: ............................................................. into this :grin2:

I have read this post about the garden hose in either the general or the led board...and found it awfully interesting...but this is beats it hands down! Very nice in bringing flashaholism into daily life!

I think next we need to put in a 3 x Lux III or Lux V, duct tape a fork to it and paint it black, then we can call it the 'tactical garden hose'!(j/k) ;)

Well, you know what the next logical step of modding this will be?
Swap the batteries for a water-spun generator that can power a Luxeon 1 or 3W. And....no need for heatsinking...water-cooling available!
Woohoo!

Dude, that's excellent! Whatever it takes to be out in the dark (with a flashlight, of course):

- "Honey, I gotta go wash the car!"
- "But it's midnight..."
- "No worries, my hose has a light"

 Is this what they call "liquid sunshine"?

This could make some nice sculpture -- get a nozzle that puts out a nice smooth arc of water instead of a spray, and bounce the light inside the stream.

Anyone know of a 'turbine' small enough to use in this setup?

Hmmm, night squirt-gun fights could also benefit. And dental irrigators.

Quick. list anything else you can think of, to prevent it from being patented.

But you would need some batteries for when you're not spraying water.:grin2:

Dr_Joe, Very nice.

I can now say I've seen everthing. :grin2:

That has got to be the most interesting use for the SMJLED to date.

Though I'm not sure I've ever actually washed a car in the dark......

did you stipple the reflector or is that just the camera angle?

The quality control on these is kind of poor, some of the reflectors have a nice smooth finish, and some are a little rough. The first one I did just happened to be one of the rougher ones.

Lambda + Missionaryman,
Thanks for the compliments ! I usually do wash my car as the sun is setting because there is less chance the soap or rinse will dry in the sun (causing spots) before I can dry it. I have a floodlight over my driveway, but the hose nozzle light really helps alot.
Am I a little eccentric (alright...NUTS), absolutely ! :tinfoil:
