I am trying to find some ideas on a project I am working on. Without getting too detailed, I want to find a device that can detect very small objects from a distance without a reflector. The best way to describe it would be to try and detect a marble dropping from a distance without a reflector on the back side of the marble as in a field interuption. The device gets more complicated, but this seems to be the hardest part to figure out. If anyone has any ideas, devices, or places I can look, I would really appreciate it. And I know this might cause confusion, so please let me clarify if parts of my question do not make sense. I am open to other methods for sensing motion like ultrasonic, light etc, but since the object is so small, I thought a laser would find it a little easier.
