Does it make sense to use silver as heat sink material for LED?

Silver is not that expensive.

Not really. It's thermal conductivity is only slight better than copper and it costs ~50 times as much per pound. Practically speaking from my experience with heat sinks even a copper heat sink, which has about twice the thermal conductivity of aluminum, is only about 50% better at dissipating heat (although it is twice as good spreading out the heat from a small source). Most LEDs dissipate so little power compared to other things that aluminum works just fine.

I've seen a couple of mods & custom lights using silver heatsinks here on CPF.
