ehh... i think filing down a battery o wat ever chemistry will damage it to a certian extent.
i certainly WILL not mess with them, especially li ion.

My main concern would be very tiny amounts of metallic dust getting into the vent, or any circuit that may happen to be located at the head end of the cell.
In short, don't mess with Li-Ions in a physical sense. Make changes to the light instead (cut/bend the spring, mod the switch, etc. or extend/bore the tube.)
