Title pretty much says it all. I'm looking for some Teflon coated wire for modding. Any suggestions for a source?

Thanks!

eBay - look for "metinbuffalo" and/or "navships" (who has "John Silver Teflon Wire Shop), both are great to deal with.

Size? Stranded? Quantity? Silver coated?

What gauge wire do you guys recommend for making light engines and tri/quad leds?

I suppose stranded silver would be nice.

As far as quantity a 50-100 ft. spool of two different colors would work.

I use 20 or 22 gauge for mods - mostly b/c of size constraints. Some have more or less insulation even when the same gauge. FYI - silver coated copper is actually cheaper b/c it is easier to manufacture than teflon directly on copper (premium prices). One of the above recommended ebay sources gets their wire as surplus from Rockwell-Collins' surplus store (aviation grade wire - typically silver coated).

I've bought from "navships" on ebay based on greenLED's recommendation (thanks greenLED). Smooth transaction, easy to deal with.
I usually use 22 gauge, 24 gauge is easier to work with for some converters but even then i've been able to manage with 22 gauge in most cases (used it in my tri-lux with Shark converter).

Mirage, both the guys I recommended sell MILSPEC-grade silver-coated teflon wire. I believe the stuff they sell is mostly "Type E" (IIRC - haven't looked at the specs in a long time). In any case, stay away from the UL-rated teflon wire that other eBay people have.

Pretty much any wire between 20-26 AWG works for converters; we use so little of it that resistance losses and stuff are basically negligible. That said, I've ended up using mostly 24AWG (although I like 26 a little better because it's a little more flexible). The neat thing about 24AWG is that it fits exactly into the connector holes in dat2zip's converter boards; goldserve's take 22 (but you can use 24 no problem).
