I always get nervous putting in a link to Kai or DX, but this is something I have never seen before. Wonder what it's thermal properties are?

From the description, it sounds like those go on top of the emitter, not underneath. It prevents metal reflectors from shorting out the power leads.

Now I understand what this is. I think I will keep using Capton tape.
