Does the M85, using the Welch Allyn 1185 bulb need any introduction? This bulb has been one of the most successful modifications for a hot wire on CPF. The beam pattern is known to be smooth and very white. Here is a light with 4 modes, soft start High, Vin=Vout, medium, low and flash built with AW C-cell driver. Here are the features.
  • 4C-cell black Maglite bored to better accept A123 Lithium Cells; the additional length accepts the AW, emoli and A123 batteries in shrink wrappers without using tube extensions.
  • AW Lithium Protected 3.6 Volt C-cells, 3 new batteries are supplied (these are longer than standard C cells)- http://www.cpfmarketplace.com/mp/showthread.php?t=157613
  • AW C-cell 4 mode driver, soft start, Vin=Vout, high, medium, low and flash settings, memory of last used. This modified light includes a correctly spaced battery tube. Single click to turn on! (This is the post re-call version, updated by AW

  • Two frosted Welch Allyn 1185 bulbs supplied, 1187 lumens, 772 torch lumens out the front are calculated from the Hot Rater

  • A UCL, Ultra Clear Lens, high temperature glass window.

  • Smooth Litho123 reflector fitted to the 1185 or larger 5761 bulb, long throwing wide hot-spot feathering into spill beam.

  • A ceramic blanket cradles the reflector
  • Common lithium chargers can charge these cells.

  • Built-in charging jack, pin is connected to switch terminal. Read conditions of sale below for jack information. Jack sits 60 degrees left for easy disconnect with right hand use, hold light right hand remove charging plug with left.
  • Modified design tail cap connection contains a common 10A automotive fuse. https://www.candlepowerforums.com/threads/162767
  • Head and reflector surrounded in ceramic blanket material for thermal management.
  • This light can be converted to a M5761 by using two A123 cells, a Phillips 5761 bulb, socket spacers and battery spacer.

This is a unique flashlight because it incorporates a charging jack and the compact lithium 25mm diameter batteries allow for the small diameter C-cell light. It now is set up with high quality protected AW cells. This host light can also be changed to the Philips 5761 and two A123 battery hot wire solution by adding a dummy cell type battery spacer and by spacers adjusting the socket height to achieve correct focus.

This is a used light by my standards although I started with new parts and have not used it beyond a few short trial runs I am not a dealer, I am a hobbyist and I sell off my unused lights from time to time. I enjoy building not collecting.

$250.00 USD

Buyer pays shipping, USPS and mailing insurance. Shipping on receipt of payment, PayPal or certified check or money order. I will honor the first "I'll take it" without conditions posted in the thread. I check CPF in the night, Mountain Standard Time, UTC/GMT -7 hours. Private Message the specific details please.

This is a custom modified light, made with used parts. All the components are modified and are not in the original condition and configuration of the manufacturer. While AW Lithium protected batteries are considered "safe Lithium" the buyer assumes all risks and responsibility to use this light safely and appropriately. This is a private sale and there is no warranty or guarantee. By making this purchase the buyer certifies they are at least 18 years of age and assume all risks and responsibility to use this light and parts safely and appropriately and accepts the light and parts in an "as is" condition.

Have you been following the hot wire threads? Yes, ROP and WA1185 modified lights have traditionally been entry-level hot wire lights. The M85, WA1185 has a following because it was there first and has proven to be successful. Actual light output from a flashlight, referred to as torch-lumens, is likely in common modified light to be:

v 1185 at 10.8Vbat. produces 772torch lumens (1194 bulb lumens)

I had to withdraw it because of a delay in battery delivery once, then I moved it because I did not realize Sasha had put the mod FS back in this forum and I was in CPFMP. Jim, this light is the whitest, 1185s definately have a very pleasing medium and very white hot spot, gives the appearance that it is brighter than 1185s are I believe because of mind tricks. With a quality beam you see more than one with yellow color and shadows to interfer with color contrasts. Even with the challenge of the 5761 the 1185 is alive and well. Some people thought I would never build or like one. This light is growing on me and I might withdraw it and keep it.
Charging jacks are so handy! My RC charger, BC-6 does a nice job on this and AW cells stay balanced so well. I can grab it, use it and put it back on the charger and it will be full and ready for a run in just minutes again.

That is a quality build and with convenient charging jack. with 3 cells many options. the 1185 could be the LOLA bulb and run Tungsram 57580 as HOLA. 1185 in it's own can be very pleasing. Good luck with sale if decide not to pull it for yourself.
