Does anybody know to what degree the little red LED in the tail cap drains the cells? I can tighten the head down to disrupt power to the locator beacon, but it is a pain to have to unscrew the head and refocus each time. If I want to leave some LSD NIMH cells in the light for a period of weeks and months, will this red beacon contribute significantly to battery drain, or is it merely a small fraction of normal self-discharge?

Good question. I was wondering the same thing.

I have a couple of Garrity LED lights that have 3 blinking indicators to show battery status (green, yellow, red). They don't seem to have a drastic effect on battery life.

Hopefully the IQ switch is similar. The IQ switch does blink brighter than the indictors on my Garrity lights though.

I read somewhere that in order to drain two alkaline aa batteries the beacon can run for something like 9 years. no worries. ;)
