Just a quick question for those more knowledgable.

Is it possible to modify a protection circuit on some Ultrafire DX Li-ions to act as an adjustable current limiter for a otherwise direct drive led?

Alternatively, is there any circuit which can sit between the -ve pole of the battery and the -ve pole of the led only and limit current? This would be my holy grail of LED drivers as I could integrate a pot in the back of my flashlight without additional wires.

I would think not, many current drivers do not have protection for a no load condition, meaning that they can't be powered without the LED being connected to them or they go :poof:. The switching has to be between the battery and the driver.
I sure someone can come up with something but it is not as simple as adding the current driver to the top (or bottom) of a cell with the cell protection board.
