I have a cheap-o 4x AAA light with on-4hz strobe.

Only problem is the driver is dead so its outputing around 10 mah. Its really nice and low, just useless as a bike light. So my question is this. Is 4x 1.5v AAA safe for direct drive? Or should I just stick a wire between two contacts? The battery holder has the switch attached to it so I can't get rid of that. I don't have rechargeable AAAs, only AA, 14500s, 18650s and rcr123s. lol

I don't really feel like getting a driver from dx... Previous attempt at putting a drive in a different light: DX driver came DOA and I waited too long to get an RMA. Not gonna order another of the same to get an RMA on the first. This isn't walmart we're talking about:crackup:.

What LED are you driving?
Or are you using standard 5mm LED's?

I typically drive cheap 5mm LEDs with 5 or 6 volts. They are damn near free, so I drive them hard, at about 100mA instead of 20mA.

Its got an R2 in it. I was thinking that using 4x1.5 might be OK because the current is limited by internal resistance.
