Dear Members,

On saturday my new MTE H6-i arrived. The flashlight was announced a few days before. I think that MTE is not so well-known in this board - how ever, the H6-i is a nice thrower!

The first prediction after having a look at the deep reflector: It's a real thrower!

Package and scope of delivery

MTE builds some nice auspicious flashlights. One reason for the low price might be the reduced scope of delivery and the basic packaging.
The H6-i comes in a simple brown carton. It's not to soft, my H6-i survived the 1000 Kilometers from HongKong to Germany without getting damaged.

At unpacking the flashlight you can see, that the scope of delivery is very little.
There's just the flashlight itself and a thin black china lanyard. Nothing special. No battery, no change o-rings, no second tailcap.
I removed the lanyard because it is not good enough and the good flashlight is it not worth to use such a cheap lanyard.

Body and machining quality

If you take the H6-i in your hands for the first time, you will feel that this flashlight is well made and significant.
The design needs getting used to, I think. Those eye-catching cooling fins, the combat ring and the jegged bezel look a bit strange.
The machining quality is quite good, the lamp is well anodized (HA-III standard), there are no holes or scarcities on the body.
The screw threads are good greased, but they are not so smooth as I believed them to be. I don't know why, maybe because of little fabrication tolerances.

There are two black O-Rings mounted on the front screw thread, the back screw has got two O-Rings and so the flashlight is in accordance to the IPX-8 standard.
The seal ring between lens and bezel is also black.
Black is the catchword: Everything's black! The O-Rings, the tailcap silicone. Sadly there are no green GITD (glow-in-the-dark) elements mounted on that flashlight. Enclosing a green GITD Tailcap wouldn't have been to expensive.

The MTE H6-i has a good grip, the knurling is quite good. Even the combat ring does it's part: It's got a hole for attaching a lanyard, it enables the "cigar grip" and it blocks tha flashlight from rolling away.

In relation to the size of the complete body, the reflector is quite deep - as a result of that, the throw abilities might be not to bad at all!

The smooth reflector is exactely 60 Millimeters deep. The reflector that's build in the Dereelight DBS-T for example is just 56mm deep.

Unfortunately the LED is not in centered perfectly, but the reflector is clean and without scratchs,

The MTE can be dissambled in some parts. Bezel, lens, reflector, mid body (with LED) and clicky.

Now some measured data …
From bezel to back the H6-i is 188 Millimeters long, the head without cooling fins is 65mm long. The diameter at the back is 26mm, the combatring has got 37mm diameter and the head 47mm.
Without battery the flashlight weights about 230 gram.

LED und Driver

Deep in the reflector you can find a Cree XM-L T6 LED with 1000 Lumens as MTE says. I don't think tat this is real, but about 700-800 Lumens are more realistic. Of course that's still enough!

The driver has got many modes. I don't know how to call the ranks, so I'll try.
Switching on the lamp brings you directly in the "mid" mode, a soft tip on the tailcap causes changing to the following modes:
High, Strobe, Low, slow Strobe, flashing, SOS, Strobe with break.

Max: 1000 Lumens/40 hours
Medium: 300 Lumens/2,2 hours
Low: 10 Lumens/100 hours

By the way: Because of the high voltage it is not possible to use the H6-i with two 16340 accus, you always have to use one 18650!
The Dereelight DBS-T (Review here http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?327065-Review-Dereelight-DBS-T-(tactical-thrower)&highlight= ) for example can be used with to 16340 or two 18650 (plus extension tube).

Temperature and runtime measurements

I measured the temperature at two different points: "Top" is a point a few millimeters beneath the furrow between bezel and body, the second point "fin" is the last cooling fin.
The measurement was done with an infrared thermometer.

The temperature was measured after 5, 10, 15 and 20 minutes. The first temperature is the beginning temperature.

Top: 25,4° - 37,0° - 44,2° - 48,6° - 50,3° Celsius
Fin: 27,5° - 40,7° - 48,8° - 52,5° - 53,4° Celsius

I checked the runtime with one TrustFire 3000mAh accu (real approx. 2400mAh). The runtime was at 54 minutes, then the lamp got much darker suddenly.
In the "mid" mode the flashlight should run for about 2,2 hours and the low mode should work for about 100 hours.

About the beam

The beam is quite attractive, even if there's a thin donut hole in the outer face.
Compared with the DBS-T, the MTEs' spot is more wide, so it is no "lightsaber".

Comparison photo taken with my iPhone: Magicshine 808E bikelight, H6-i and the DBS-T on the right side.

Conclusion

The H6-i is a big step forward for MTE. I do not like the little scope of delivery, but the quality of the flashlight itself is very good! And the price is competitive.
The machining quality is - compared with the low price - on a high level, the sealing with double O-Rings is a good idea.
Because of the power, there's a significant heating. That might be nice while using the flashlight in your bare hands in a cold night, but you canÄt touch the hot lamp after 15 minutes anymore. The many different modes are not so perfect, I would prefer a version with only three brightness modes and without flashing modes.
The beam distance is very good, the deep reflector and the bright XM-L LED act in concert very good.

Below the line, the MTE H6-i is a nice budget thrower with a long beam distance. The lenght of 19cm is not too big, so you might put it in your pocket.

A little size comparison between all my lights:
Lummi Wee, TrustFire Z1, LumaPower IncenDio V3+, UF mini-T60, UF-2100, Dereelight DBS-T, MTE H6-i

Hey Herculaneum,

I was wondering where you picked it up from.
I went on the MTE website and strangely enough this model is not even on there.
Tried to do a search and came up with nothing.
Could you or anyone else out there help me with this.

The only thing I can say is that MTE's Website was not actualized for a long time …
Admin Unforgiven told me that postings concerning "where to get" are not allowed.
