So I finally got my 10w LED chips.. They're basically 3 x 3.. rated 9 to 12vdc and run 1050ma max.

I hooked one up to my lab power supply and adjusted voltage up and amperage. I maxed it out at 1.05 amps and the voltage held steady at 10.2 vdc.

The little sucker started heating up the copper plate slug I temporarily mounted it to.. I shouldn't have been surprised though as 10w is 10w and its all going into that heat sink.

So. my question:
I'm going to mount 4 to 6 of these to a 2 x 3 inch piece of aluminum square tubing about 4 feet long and then blow air through the tube to carry away heat.. This assembly will be mounted in my garage.

What I want to know is, would it be better to point the LED's straight up into a reflector like a 4ft florescent bulb fixture has with the heatsink below the LED Chip? or better to point them straight down with the heatsink above the chip and use a diffuser? Heat rises yes?
