When we go camping, I like to bring along one of those small Coleman battery powered lamps so that my wife and I can read in bed without turning on the overhead camper lights. The lantern we have is one which has a lamp shade covering an incadescent bulb. It also has an LCD clock with an alarm built into it.

The Gears Started To Turn...

I wanted to add a small, high-brightness, red LED lamp for a nightlight.

I drilled two holes through the case: 1 for a small switch and 1 for the LED with bezel.

Since the lamp is powered by 4 "D" Batteries (6 volts), I added a 200 ohm dropping resistor for the LED.

We're currently undergoing the "how long will it light the LED" test. I suspect that I should be able to keep the LED burning for at least 2 weeks with the capacity of the batteries (rechargeable brand).
