"The facts are these: The Nitepalm Palm4 uses a super intensity, white LED, which throws a beam of light some 90 feet through a fish eye lens and protective translucent, rubber lens cap. However, this is just one of four modes this smart torch has to offer. The three lighting modes include an 'always on' soft glow mode, which means the Palm4 can easily be located at night; an extremely bright beam mode which also works as a room light because of the clear rubber lens housing and last but not least a bright flashing emergency signal that can be seen from as far away as two miles in total darkness. Extremely useful in emergency or safety situations. Powered by an inexpensive, easily sourced, standard 9V battery, which comes with the unit provides an incredible 40 hours of continuous bright light on full power or 200 hours of strobe. The 'always on' permanent glow mode will stay on for over one year on just one battery."

The Register picks up some interesting lights a bit ahead of most other retailers, but they do tend to be pricer than most other sources.

This product sounds very similar to the PALlight.

This is, or is highly similar to, the repackaged PALight. The PALight, IMHO, is much better because it's smaller and you don't get the backspill of light in your eyes from the "clear rubber lens housing". The new version I saw also required a dang screwdriver to change the batteries, and the old one required no tools of any kind.
