Hello. I need help people!

I want to order a Strion but I need to be sure it's gonna be bright enough.

I had a Scorpion once and I liked it, but I hated the rubber cover. It was not easy to slide it in and out of my pant pockets. The Scorpion was the kind of brightness that I want. 6500 CP? I dunno, it seems brighter than a Stinger which is at 15000 CP. How many Lumens does the Scorpion put out? Is the Scorpion considered a spot light or a flood light?

I don't know much about the Surefires, except that they are expensive, bulbs blow easy and they are expensive. The only way I would ever get another CR123 type light is if I could order the CR123's at no more than a $1.00 per battery. I easily would burn 2 batteries per day.

I have been trying to FIND a Brinkman Maxfire for $20.00 at Walmart but I have yet to see one. Where the hell are they? I think their bulbs are only $5 per bulb versus $20 for the Surefires.

What about the TL-2 (xenon)? 100 Lumens?

Any votes for the Pelican's?

I wanted the Strion because the battery costs drops to zero, if they are bright enough, but I have a feeling the Scorpion is brighter than the Strion?

So, to sum up. I want a small very bright light for myself and I want a small bright LED type light for my wife and her purse.

Sound off!

If you plan on burning that many batteries than rechargable is the way to go. Don't own a Strion but tried it out once and the throw and output seem good.

I own a Pelican M6 and like it a lot. Good light output and great throw.

As for the batteries, you are in luck because batterystation.com sells them for a dollar each, if that is the route you want to take.

Only problem with rechargables is that if you need the light and the batteries are dead you can't just change the battery and go, you need to wait for it to charge. With the CR123 route, just change them and go.

Hope that helps a bit. I am sure the others here will give good info soon.

In the meantime, check out flashlightreviews.com it has some very good reviews about a lot of lights.

The strion is absolutely awesome.
It's more of a throw light rather than flood. Even though it can be focused, the beam is only nice when it's focused tight. It's brighter than the M6 and throws farther.
For it's size, it's the best throwing light.

Brightness is comparable to the Scorpion and TL-2.

The fact it's rechargable is the selling point, an it's Li-Ion so no need to worry about memory effects and capacity loss, and it works well in the cold. Lasts over an hour on a charge.

I second Shifty's comments on the Strion. Bought one a few weeks ago and am very happy with it. Outstanding throw for the size, beautiful white beam, lightwt. and very pocket-able, and nice form factor. I don't intend to buy any more CR123s, so I think the Strion will work out well for me.

The Strion seems brighter than the Scorpion. As it has been posted above it has great throw. Also because of the characteristics of the lithium-ion cell the light doesn't dim as quickly as the cr123a lights.

Strion and Scorpion are in the same general brightness class but Strion is a nicer light and rechargeable.

If you want something brighter, next stop is maybe a Pila, I forget which model but the 3 cell equivalent.

Next stop after that is a Tigerlight, which is considerably bigger.

Strions are really nice: small, bright, and rechargeable.
Pelican M6 rules: excellent beam quality; the LED version is the *whitest* Lux you'll find. You can use 1 rechargeable Pila 168s battery, but the output is lower.

paulr is referring to the Pila GL3; see my sig for details, there are also several reviews on the reviews section. Excellent light.

The knurling on the Strion is a little slippery though. I wish the Strion had the form factor of the TL-2 with a clickie switch. I sold my Strion because it bugged me.
Freshman,
If you like streamlight, I would get the TL-2, a couple of Strion bulbs, and some Pila 168s rechargable lithiums. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

TL-2 + Strion bulb + Pila 168s would end up costing more than the Strion! All that for better grip?
Also, it wouldn't have as much throw...

Although I do agree that the finish is smoother than some might like, but I can live with it.

As a general principle, form factor is worth extra $$ to me, but you're right, the Strion as a package is cheaper. Also consider that the TL-2 could be converted back to using CR123a's without too much trouble. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

TL-2 with Strion bulb and 168S underperforms regular TL-2. It is dimmer and remains dimmer until the last 10-15 minutes.

Strion beam is slightly whiter than the stock Stinger (which it supposedly replaces) but smaller and emits less total light. The Strion is a compromise between brightness and runtime and is much dimmer than the PM6, but smaller and cheaper to run as well as being unique in its size class (for the moment).

For those looking for remarkable brightness with no runtime penalty for the Stinger and Stinger HP fivemega's PILA adapter is a steal at $28.00
