Which malkoff head is the best for the throw?? Thanks

The highest lux is currently provided by the 18650 XP-L Hound Dog, at roughly 26K CD. The soon to be released Hound Dog is supposed to deliver 80K+ CD, with an optic. I don't expect this to be surpassed significantly for quite a while.

As exciting as a new Hound Dog is, I just don't know if I'll like the optic. I've had a couple 200,000 plus lux super throwers from Vinh and others and I've sold them all but kept the HD the whole time. It's such a useful thrower compared to the really pencil beam type throwers. On low, it's downright convenient for most normal close up applications and you're just a half twist from lighting everything up down range with good enough spill to prevent tunnel vision.

I agree with you! Although I would love the new Hound Dog, I am very happy with my 18650 HD. Especially the low mode - great for navigation and runtime!

This makes a lot of sense to me...and just cost me a little more money as a result. The neutral XM-L Hound Dog head is inbound to complement my Wildcat V6 on an MD4 body.

I see that it's time to save money not only for a new Wildcat, but also a new Hound Dog! An interesting question is: will the new Hound Dog be in the standard M60/61 head size like the new Wildcat?...

You'll like that HD, especially in neutral. Lovely beam, it may hog the MD4 though.
P

I dunno, Peter. I think it may be more a fun add-on and something which proves useful from time to time as compared to the Wildcat V6. I only say that because my immediate environment only allows anything like a longish clear view if standing on the road or a rooftop, whereas the shorter but wider pattern of the Wildcat seems more tailored for a wooded environment. That said, if I had a penny for every time I've been wrong I'd own multiples of every Malkoff light.

BTW, can the MD4 also run on a pair of 16650s? I only ask because I'll only have one pair of 18650s coming with the Wildcat today.

No, the new Hound Dog Super will use a 2" TIR lens so it will be larger than the M60/61's.

Looking for some Malkoff guidance. Looking a new light options for the wife - see details here if you like. Want to get closer to 1000 if possible. Dead simple usage and reliable. This is a gift and potentially an upgrade to an Olight which she loves. Seems like Malkoff could fit the bill. If not, I'll sell it here and lose 20% or so. Not the end of the world.

I would like it to be a 18650 light. Some variant if MD2 seems like the right way to go. But only 325 lumens. I know most of you will the difference is imperceptible, but I'm trying to get to 1000. 325 is going the wrong way.

The MDC XP-L is 450 continuous. That seems better (again, I know I won't see the diff from 325). Two issues with it: it defaults to low when turned on - opposite of what I need. Also a 16650. Why is the 16650 light brighter than the 18650? Can I change the MD2 LED to get to 500?)

Given all this, is there a combo of parts Malkoff parts I could get to get where I want to be? The light needs to start at ~500 lumens or better and stay there indefinitely. Not the end of the world if a Malkoff won't work in this case.
