Penlight for a med school student

Well, I should be able to measure the draw on the batteries. It's not particularly bright, but (IIRC) the bulb has a thick tip that acts as a focusing lens. One thing I think she disliked was the weight - being brass, it's a bit clunky.

Penlight for a med school student

For your reference, this was the former Cadillac of incandescent penlights back in 2008 when high-CRI LEDs were just starting to appear: WelchAllyn 76600: http://www.steeles.com/products/welch-allyn-halogen-penlite-76600 My wife was in residency at the time and I purchased one for her since a...

    Zebralight SC600Fd III Plus - XHP50

LOL, apples and oranges. Zebralight quality, IMO, is quite comparable to Surefire. Ordered 9/9 and no update yet...

LED Logic - Striker VG - Whatever Became of the Company?

Ah, was just wondering the same thing. Looks like they just faded into obscurity. They seemed to have invested quite a bit into the design of the Striker with the hope of finding customers in law enforcement... kind of an all your eggs situation. Love the Striker's TIR lens and the feel of the...

    TiGlow Encapsulation

Thanks, wigregard. I was a little reluctant to drop ~$40 on a 30cc bottle of Norland which I knew I would never get close to exhausting (before expiration), but in the interest of experimentation I went that route. BTW, this bottle is still useable, although it seems to cure to a slightly straw...

Surefire Titan T1A Pics & Info

Ah, but the thermodynamics don't end there! Ti also has about half of the heat capacity of Al, which means for a given amount of energy absorbed, Ti will heat up considerably more (I'm not a physics expert, but these two factors will both influence the rate of heating - capacity accelerating it...

    Surefire Titan T1A

Re: Surefire Titan T1A - latest news? Yep, thanks for that Vox. Exactly my concern. Not sure if there is potential for this to occur in the T1A (if there's ano inside, that may prevent it), but why not play it safe and come up with another solution? Maybe even a dab of glue to the edge of the...

    Surefire Titan T1A

Re: Surefire Titan T1A - latest news? Ah, good news! Since a magnet typically carries some risk of short circuit, I would recommend finding another solution.

Surefire Titan T1A Five Minute Timer

Ugh, hate to hear these stories of inconsistent behavior. Still, to me the timer is a useful feature since I prefer not to use extras like holsters (but this is a great suggestion for titanium titan owners!). The only use I would have for the lowest setting would be stealthy reading of a map...

New girl needs help on an EDC

The LF3XT is a highly regarded light, and most certainly amongst the latest and greatest if you're OK with a somewhat more complicated setup. Once you have it customized, it should be a breeze to operate (unfortunately, I don't own one :mecry:). Also, I just remembered this thread which was...

New girl needs help on an EDC

A HUGE +1 on this statement. These threads rapidly become useless, there are simply waaaay too many options and opinions. The best thing you can do is look over reviews which were done consistently and systematically since there is no perfect flashlight out there. Work up a short list of...

    Surefire Titan T1A

Re: Surefire Titan T1A - latest news? There's a nifty place called Google that can give you plenty of leads on where to purchase the T1A. There are quite a few places, so you might want to start by searching the CPF Marketplace. I liked Don's idea of coupling the titanium Titan with his...

    Surefire Titan T1A

Re: Surefire Titan T1A - latest news? Wow, interesting observations from the lucky folks who finally have one in hand! Having EDCed the titanium titan on and off for some time now, I have to say that I kind of like the idea of an auto off, but agree that 1 - the threshold level should be...

Brightest LED lights to date that are around $500?

Lux's post here... http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showpost.php?p=2902612&postcount=426 ...gives an excellent comparison between what you could expect from a P7 mag (similar to the Mag85, but not quite that bright with a single p7) versus the DEFT. Clearly, these are two very different...

Brightest LED lights to date that are around $500?

The OP was inquiring about LED lights, HIDs have their own forum. Back OT... The DEFT has always intrigued me, but lack of variability and a convenient flood option kind of ruled that out (interestingly, it now looks to have a somewhat convenient flood option with the included additional...
