    Decent Budget 18650 Cells?

I have only used gray Ultrafires and blue Trustfires from extreme dealer and no problems whatsoever. even in a direct drive SSC P7 torch which pulls 4A with a fresh battery. In CPF you will get bashing if you suggest any other battery than AW. Every forum whatever the subject is has "the man"...

    Ultrafire C3 SS now not cree XP-E Q5 but XR-C P4 (maybe)...

I also swapped the P2 emitter with 14mm XPG-R5 ($6.80 shipped from Dealextreme). The emitter dropped right in. I used "enough" silicone thermal paste. With P2 the taicap current was 0.9A and with R5 1.2A from 14500. Plenty, plenty of light now but heats up pretty fast. Beam not too bad but I...

    Ultrafire?

No issues whatsoever with my WF-502B XPG-R5. Used as a bike light year round (-30C last winter, worked just fine) and as a general light as well. Good solid torch in my opinion. Many say the 501 is flimsier than the 502. I also had the C3 P4 but not for very long since my work buddy buyed it...

    Modded my Cree C6

I have some "gray" ultrafires as well. I have a direct drive MTE SSC P7 and it draws a bit over 4A from tailcap with fresh battery.

    XPG R5 in Ultrafire C3

A bit of a donut is seen on white wall but not too bad. The center of the hotspot is slightly less bright than the edges. I just came from the outside and now the C3 is a killer for such a small form factor light. It blows the Akoray hands down and the Akoray is not a bad light. It illuminates...

    XP-G in Ultrafire C3 SS

Dealextreme 14mm R5 emitter drops right in the C3 stainless. 10 minute mod.

    XPG R5 in Ultrafire C3

I just modded my $13 C3 stainless that originally had XR-C P2 led. I ordered the 14mm XPG-R5 from DX for $6.80 delivered. The swap was very easy, the P2 was not glued on the pill, only had very little amount of silicone paste. With P2 the current draw was 0.9A from 14500 battery. Now it is 1,2A...

    Your Top-five budget lights !

I only have four budget lights bought from DX and KD. All are very different for different purposes. I have tried only to pick lights with good reviews and high user satisfaction rate. All have good build quality and have worked without any issues. All use li-ion rechargeables. The order is...

Need help on looking for a cheap small EDC flashlight with forward clicky

Romisen RC-C6. Got one recently and I like it more and more every day. Small stubby light with great features and good quality feel.

    DealExtreme or KaiDomain?

I have made many, many orders from DX and only one from KD. Everything has been ok with both. Dx has super cool website with excellent support system (not very fast but works.)

XP-G for under $23, good deal or more junk?

I have the Ultrafire 502b XP-G R5 from KD. It works, is very bright, feels solid, looks good and has a P60 type module for future updates. In mid it puts out pretty much the same lumens as my Akoray 106 on high (with 14500). On high it is much brighter, not very far from MTE P7. Draws over 2...

Most torch for the $ ?

No I have not done any torture test on Akoray but I have accidentally dropped it in water couple of times. One thing to note on the light. My Akoray came without any lube on the threads and o-rings. The head and lens are watertight but the tailcap needs a bit of help. The tailcap o-ring could...

Most torch for the $ ?

You will also know the Akoray will survive outdoors once you have done the same test with it . If the principle is: "Akoray is a great light but I just cannot trust it because it is inexpensive and from DX", then it is not the EDC for you. You will be happier with more expensive ones...

Most torch for the $ ?

Akoray has o-rings in every joint + lens so I would be very surprised if it is not waterproof enough for outdoor use. I may not want to dive with it but dropping in a shallow water is no problem (don't ask how I know). As for different versions on DX, for $14 you are guaranteed to get the...

Most torch for the $ ?

For the bang for buck I would agree on this. I have edc:d one for few months now at work (engineering workshop supervisor) and spare time activities as well. Excellent finish and operation, super bright for such a small light. Smooth shape without useless mangling teeth or other "tactical"...
