What Do You Guys Do With Your Eneloop Bundle Costco Chargers ?

Just a thought. Wondering if these chargers could be modified to charge individual cells? Probably only 1 or 2 cells at a time as there are only 2 LED indicators for charge state. But if you have several collecting dust in a drawer? I have one and would not hesitate to start cutting traces...

does anyone have an opinion on this headlamp?

Almost looks like you can turn the headlamp on and off by head butting any available wall. Gently so it does not crack the thing of course. If it does click on/off like that would it be the first totally hands free UI? Very clever if they wanted it to work that way and if they did they must...

    Petzl Strix

Looks great. I want one and I'll accept one as a gift from Santa but otherwise Yikes! If you want a stealth-ed headlamp just splice a resister and a switch into the cable from a remote battery pack. You can have 0.27 lumens or whatever for a lot less.

Charging a car battery via a solar panel

Was thinking of 2 ways to do this: the right way as expensive as possible or the wrong way as cheap as possible. The cheapest: Nix wired electric lights and use some Walmart kerosene lanterns for illumination Quiet, cheap and 100% reliable. Most expensive: Buy a lot of solar with sun...

Brand new to headlights, will this work?

Fishing! Sounds like fun. Also it could be your job. May be an easy job of just adding a resistor between a unbroken whole battery pack and a headlamp that expects a lower voltage. Google will lead you to a solution. Ohms law, current drain, resistor wattage heat dissipation so it does not set...

Is Energizer trying to kill rechargeable batteries? They're sure trying.

The D-cell sleeve conversion for Ni-mH AA cells is simple and works. I use them in a big mag-lite. The D-cell type is curious. Probably just some marketing people trying for change and generate new sales. decades ago I bought 2 rechargeable D-cells which died. cut one open and it had a tiny...

Portable solar charging setup I just built...

Looking good! If you could salvage some old carry on bag with wheels and an extendable handle to mount all the parts on and in might make transport a little easier unless vibration is a no-no for those types of panels. Thanks for showing the build!

    Body-heat powered flashlight

Very nice. good design. Easy to hold. Looks like a flash flight. Probably bright enough for dark adapted eye sight. Imagine plugs could be made to close the ends of the hollow tube and fill it with ice cubes. Hope she makes some money. btw Reportedly someone measured the TEG output in the...

What it takes to kill an Eneloop

Seems poorly built charger's can be anywhere. Many of us have a few. Sometimes months will go by before I round up all my eneloops for a mass recharge session. Every dumb and smart charger I own is plugged in until my desk is covered with them. So far all my eneloops continue to perform. None...

Build yer own "Battery Vampire" with a P60

A headlamp with few specific demands for a world downfall.

cxax - reliable = LED + resistor + 3 AA eneloops + on/off switch. Many low cost headlamps out there that fit this basic concept that you can thread a Zebra light onto the head strap for multi mode use. Having 2 independent lights on the same head strap guarantees you'll have light if one fails.

    Recommend me a multi-meter please?

Re: Good cheap volt meter? I have 4 DMM's. Two of them are the low cost $6 Harbor Freight models, which if lost, stolen, squished, or vaporized due to a mistake ain't going to hurt the way the loss of 'The Fluke' will. Note: for accurate current measuring some people keep a dedicated 0.1 ohm...

This should be easy, but there are SO MANY HEADLAMPS!

I have both wide beam and narrow beam headlamps. In the day time when working in or under a car I really prefer the narrow beam head lamp to illuminate the bolt, screw, etc down past all the hoses and wire harnesses. Eyes are daylight adapted already so a narrow beam is necessary not a wide...

Ever have an alkaline leak in a single cell device?

Maybe it was the freezing temps that got to a spare pack of D cells in the car. One of them leaked in the blister pack.

    Any long lasting bright headlamps?

Long lasting 'run-time wise' and bright is simple with a big battery pack. Although the hazard posed by accidentally crushing the pack in a fall and having a lithium fire on your belt is scary. Long lasting as in something you could pass on to your grand kids in 50years still working is another...
