When did you order your HDS?

Federal FTC rules do not allow him to hold customer money longer than 30 days without offering a refund. Filling orders to stores ahead of old orders (30+ days) without offering a refund could get him in trouble if someone files a complaint.

    SF Saint Minimus redesign?

My dealer told me my order for another Saint Minimus would be delayed about a month because the Minimus is being redesigned. Does anyone know what SF might be changing? I like the Minimus as-is and am getting one for my dad.

Man dies from battery explosion in cell phone

Modern PCs use coin cell Lithium batteries but the batteries before that - 2CR5? - would sometimes explode, with enough force to eject a desktop PC covers at high speed, sometimes the power supply and other parts too. As I said this is thought to be a solved problem and I haven't seen a report...

Man dies from battery explosion in cell phone

Lithium batteries most definitely can explode although this problem is mostly solved now. A computer manufacturer I used to work at had several explosions in the field in the 1990's and a co-worker across the hall had a prototype notebook battery sitting on his desktop explode one night; I...

Runtime of SF 6PL vs G3L

I'm having a little trouble parsing this sentence...:green: Which light are you talking about, and what did you see when you tested it?

    Polarion PH50 vs SUREFIRE BEAST

No, that's not true outside of the consumer market. Generally there is a minimum brightness requirement, followed by pages of other requirements. High Output is easy (up to a point) whereas it's the other requirements that are hard. The more expensive each deployment that uses a light...

    Polarion PH50 vs SUREFIRE BEAST

All Beasts have the bumpers as far as I know. It's a built-in part of the light.

Why doesnt the US forces use Chinese made LED Torches

No, essentially all countries buy only locally-made products if they exist. The ones that don't have severe corruption/bribery problems. Among other reasons in the US is that foreign companies aren't allowed to give campaign contributions to elected US officials. Government prices may be...

    Polarion PH50 vs SUREFIRE BEAST

In this rarefied company it may make sense to differentiate based on hard-user scenarios where the light is a necessary component of a successful mission but it well down the list of priorities of the gear that is carried. The usual example I give is a search & rescue deployment where the...

Surefire Beast wannabe.....will the "real" Beast please stand up!!!

To put what others have said another way: Nobody wants such a cumbersome light, especially a mountain search & rescue guy who has to hike with this thing for a mile from the helicopter landing site to the search area, over rocks & snow, across streams, etc, with radio, medical and other gear in...

Help me Understand Why SureFire are so Expensive

One thing many get wrong is to assume that brightness in some way relates to sophistication or quality on the part of the flashlight maker. This is not true. It is easy to make a bright LED flashlight. Anyone can do it. Every new bottom-feeder that pops up DX produces a lot of light because...

The perfect UI; the perfect torch?

The Gatlight has had the knob for a while and it's nowhere near that long. And I agree: button clicks aren't a UI, they're a nuisance!

    Best green laserpointer

Are you planning on using this as a pointer? I.e. in a conference room with an unprotected audience? I have a 175 mW Nova "pointer" which works very well but cannot be used at all as a presentation pointer. For that the AtlasNova class II is the way to go.

    Help me choose a greenie!

The problem with IR isn't the power but rather the fact that it doesn't trigger the blink reflex. 5 mW of green will trigger a blink before any damage can occur but 5mW of IR will not.

    Help me choose a greenie!

The IR is a byproduct of the way that all green consumer lasers work (i.e., DPSS). Reputable sellers add IR filters for safety reasons due to the hazards of IR (you don't blink for IR so even low output levels can damage the eye). So the IR isn't added so much as not removed, probably because...
