Consensus on the best bike headlights? Please give me your top recommendations!

Re: best bike headlights? top recommendations! Proper optics >>>> more lumens. Philips used to be the hotness, but no longer in production. Spanninga took over the optics, look for their Axendo models. No experience with it, but the Ravemen PR series lights sound pretty impressive. I'd be...

Recommend me a decent bike light

The same mitzikatzi off BNA? Hi! Looks like any generic Cree XML round-beam lamp, only a little smaller. No idea of build quality, colour bin, colour rendering (probably low), beam pattern (apart from it will be bad on road). Cable robustness (or lack of) killed this sort of light for me...

2015 - latest hotness in cutoff battery lights?

Garmin Varia looks like it could be OK. https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/into-sports/cycling/varia-smart-bike-lights/prod506138.html Picture of device Not cheap, but an out front mount and you can stack your computer on top if it, plus use a remote control switch and some of the fancier...

Budget front light for mixed on/off road use: any good 'uns?

When ah was a boy, we 'ad t' work down't coalmine with nothing but a candle on a stick etc... [/montypython] Look for German stuff, most of the available lights that have a cutoff beam comply with their STvZO standard. The Philips Saferide is still the king (IMO); no longer manufactured but...

2015 - latest hotness in cutoff battery lights?

Mostly to go with the aesthetics of a carbon road bike, and not take up so much bar space. Of course aesthetics is not such a big issue in the dark :D Saferides still available on bike24 for now... might just get a second bracket for it, and another light for my wife who is riding in the dark...

2015 - latest hotness in cutoff battery lights?

Hi all. What's the current choice in internal-battery cutoff beam (StVZO compliant or similar) bike front lights? I've been (very) happy with my Philips Saferide on the commuter, but wouldn't mind something a bit sleeker for my newer road bike for when I take it commuting. I'm not interested...

Show us your bike light set-up

Re: My bike light setup 2013/2014 Hmm, not sure about the upside-down Philips there... :D One-on-one, how do you compare the Saferide to the Ixon IQ Premium?

Philips SafeRide 80 battery compatibility issues

I think if the batteries are unplugged, the light will act like they're new/fresh. I had issues with a couple of sets of batteries in my Saferide, 3rd set worked a charm. No explanation why, sorry. PS the light won't work with the USB cable plugged in, I trust you didn't try to do that?

    DIY Optics

DIY won't really be feasible til the design part of the process becomes easier and cheaper. Look up the cost of a Zemax licence, then figure out how long it will take you to learn... And this still doesn't help you with super-smooth aluminium-deposition-coated reflectors...

REVIEW: Specialized Flux Expert Bicycle Headlight - Photo Intensive

Great writeup, thanks. I would love to see beamshots and review in comparison to other known quantities (Philips Saferide for starters, because that's what I have and still appear to be a benchmark...) Only two things (well, three if you count price) could make this better: 1) wireless remote...

    Decent quality headlight

This is the battery driven version of the Saferide, this is the one you want: http://www.mea.philips.com/c/bicycle%20lamps/led-bike-lights-saferide-srfb80blx1/prd/ 270 lumens, 80 lux, great cutoff beam pattern. Best road riding light out there.

    Philips LED bike light

One problem you will have if you are just replacing the batteries with an external power source, and using the original Philips electronics: The Philips electronics have a timer system that will shut off the light after about 2 hours, at which point you need to disconnect the power source and...

Remote Switch - Single Mode Mod

Holding down the switch for 2 seconds should make it turn off, if it is like the magicshines.

    Hot-rodding a bicycle headlight?

Hmm, used to be on bike24 but no longer listed. You didn't say anything about not being a battery light.
