    The same mitzikatzi off BNA? Hi! Looks like any generic Cree XML round-beam lamp, only a little smaller. No idea of build quality, colour bin, colour rendering (probably low), beam pattern (apart from it will be bad on road). Cable robustness (or lack of) killed this sort of light for me...

    Mostly to go with the aesthetics of a carbon road bike, and not take up so much bar space. Of course aesthetics is not such a big issue in the dark :D Saferides still available on bike24 for now... might just get a second bracket for it, and another light for my wife who is riding in the dark...

    Philips SafeRide 80 battery compatibility issues

    I think if the batteries are unplugged, the light will act like they're new/fresh. I had issues with a couple of sets of batteries in my Saferide, 3rd set worked a charm. No explanation why, sorry. PS the light won't work with the USB cable plugged in, I trust you didn't try to do that?

    DIY Optics

    DIY won't really be feasible til the design part of the process becomes easier and cheaper. Look up the cost of a Zemax licence, then figure out how long it will take you to learn... And this still doesn't help you with super-smooth aluminium-deposition-coated reflectors...
