*new*: Sunwayman P02A penlight: 2 x AAA, max. 168 lumens

Yes - EagleTac have got the right idea: head tight for high, loose for low and a forward clicky !

    Need some help...

That's an interesting test and good thinking to hold the momentary on for longer. Since the light only stops working once you've clicked, I wonder if it's mechanical rather than electrical ? The single rechargeable cell will be a different length to 2 x CR123s and I've known switches to be...

Relationship between Color Blindness and Tint Preference in Flashlights

What an outrageous suggestion - just because someone has different preferences to you doesn't mean that they are colour-blind.

Surefire F04 diffuser makes a good substitute. It's also take-on-and-offable, so I get the best of both worlds :)

Are the more popular red LEDs the correct wavelength or brightness?

The other way to do it is to build your own . . . http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/showthread.php?391039-Gladius-Hyper-Red-upgrade

Are the more popular red LEDs the correct wavelength or brightness?

Indeed - most of these use an emitter with a 630 nm or even 625 nm wavelength which isn't really red at all. You are quite right in describing them as red-orange. This, and the excessive brightness, makes many of these lights useless for preserving night vision. For anything approaching...

Are people still upgrading the Gladius?

Yes, it's still one of my favourite UIs and makes a good host for modding. XP-G and XM-L both work well for an upgrade. They're getting hard to find now but I've recently modded one with a 660nm Hyper-red Osram, for astronomy...

Want new flashlight to replace P12: A bit smaller but with similar characteristics.

Thrunite TN12 would do it. I also found the P12 just a little too fat - the TN12 is just a little smaller and thinner, easier to grip. Try Selfbuilt's excellent review: Thrunite TN12 2014 (XM-L2, 1x18650, 2xCR123A/RCR) Review: BEAMSHOTS, RUNTIME, VIDEO+

    Incompetent electricians.

My gripe with these is that they nearly always install them shining sideways and lighting up half the neighbourhood instead of directed downwards onto the property they are supposed to be illuminating. That and the sensitivity up too high so they go off every time a cat goes by three streets...

Talking about using these lights outdoors - it was beautiful clear night last night here in Scotland, so I thought I'd show you what I've been getting up to with the Hyper-Red. Here's my telescope setup: The Hyper-Red rotary is perfect for an evening's viewing, with the unique ability to...
