    Car inverter fixable?

You have nothing to lose by opening it up.. I blew up some expensive aquarium lighting, opened it up, and found out that it had a fuse trace on the PCB itself! Added a bit of wire, and good as new.... I bet there will be some visible damage, or a fuse blown, so just try ripping everything...

    Anyone heard of IMCO lighters?

Figured I'd dredge up this old thread instead of make my own.. DX started selling IMCO's, and that got me started recently on these.. I have no idea if they're genuine or not, but I've been collecting them like hotcakes. I've owned zippos before, and just never kept them around.. The imco's...

    Tail Cap Idea. Thoughts?

Well heck. Thanks for sharing the frogleaper/powerdesk thing. I had briefly attempted a similar inductive charging method, but a turnkey solution is a much better option. Just buy a frogleaper nimh, throw it in your aluminum light and toss it on the charging pad. Good to go.

    Today got EZAA & K-106

I agree with the chart too. Matches my results with my meter (Except I don't agree with the 'low' figures) The limiting factor on NIMhs on high is the quality of the cell. I'm sure if you hooked up a bunch of cells in parallel and did another test, that the light output would remain constant...

change to one mode drivr. what to buy?

I find that usually the deciding factor is the driver size. Find out what diameter you need and go from there. You'll need a buck driver for best efficiency, or you can just wire up a couple ohm resistor inline.

    Today got EZAA & K-106

Re: Today got EZAA & Akoray K-106 If your regulation isn't broken on the akoray it'll be fine. I left mine on my bed for runtime tests. It didn't get more than slightly warm. If your akoray gets HOT just sitting there, then I'd be concerned. I'd fear exploding lithium battery moreso than...

    making 5mode flashlight a 1 mode

Since it has a boost converter (likely), you should just be able to tap into that or tap into after the current regulator. Electrically it's probably like this. battery -> boost circuit -> current regulatorr -> PWM controller/IC (for the 5 modes) -> LED just bypass the controller. I'm going...

Any issues with leaving flashlights in car in the heat?

I personally would never leave a lithium rechargeable battery in my car during the summer (without cracking the windows). Too much risk for a fire. NIMh would probably be okay. I usually have a couple pounds of lipos in my car during the summer with the windows cracked and using a fireproof...

Any issues with leaving flashlights in car in the heat?

140 or 160F (I forget which) destroys nimh and lithium rechargeables. I always leave the windows cracked if I have a lithium cell in the car.

BessieBenny's Budget LED (DX/KD etc) Flashlights Review Roundup (Part XII)

No. Everything DX sends is a 'gift', wink wink, nudge nudge. No customs fee's on gifts.

    Suddenly running out of juice?

With decent regulation it can be pretty hard to tell when the lights going out. It can be a very sudden dimming that occurs within 3 minutes. That's why I got an LF5XT, so I can have the light blip out what the battery voltage is, so there are no surprises. Also, IMHO the cutoff voltage on...

    Need help, mid-sized do-it-all flashlight?

I wouldn't keep lithium ion cells in a car. The winter might be fine, but the summer can nuke them.

    XPG R5 in Ultrafire C3

Taking the head apart is pretty easy. The pill just unscrews easily. Careful not to tighten it too tight when you put it back in or you'll push the o-ring out the front. The reflector is attached over the emitter with an adhesive tape donut. If you pull it off the tape will likely tear in half...

BessieBenny's Budget LED (DX/KD etc) Flashlights Review Roundup (Part XII)

That's a great mod there JC. Perfect for putting on a hat perhaps? Regarding the Q5 5 mode Ultrafire Stainless Steel, just a word of warning. I think I ended up cracking/damaging/flexing the PCB by trying to put a protected 14500 in mine and torquing it down. After I tried putting a 14500 in...

AKOray AA & AAA Review + RUNTIME

Both of my K106's have had similar beam color. Warm, maybe slightly blue. Looks good, even compared to my warm tint. (I put in a supposed Q4 5A emitter in mine, and the lux dropped by 30%) As far as heat, I've only had heat be a problem if I accidentally turn the light on while it's in my...
