PAR20 LED replacement for range hood?

Update: One of the Philips 39W halogens just burned out. I went to Home Depot and they no longer offer halogen PAR20s. LED only. So I picked up a two-pack of Feit "Enhance" PAR20 floods (3000K, 450 lumens, 90+ CRI) for ~$10. Replaced the burned out Philips and also the 50W GE with them. I'm...

    Recycling CFLs/FLs vs LEDs?

A number of the recycling places I've used in the past have stopped taking fluorescent bulbs of any sort. Used to just be linear, then CFLs. Now they don't even take LED bulbs. I can sort of understand fluorescent bulbs due to mercury scare. (Though at places I used to work at, the...

Nearly half of U.S. households use LED bulbs for all or most of their indoor lighting

Of note, almost all my original Philips alien head and 1st gen Cree bulbs have failed by now and have been replaced. Fortunately the more recent purchases seem to be holding up well.

Nearly half of U.S. households use LED bulbs for all or most of their indoor lighting

Roger passed away! Oh no! I've had a pair of his ML-1Cs since the 1970s. Emailed him some years ago about repairing the foam surrounds on the 8" and 12" drivers, and he was quite generous with his feedback and advice. He will be missed.

PAR20 LED replacement for range hood?

One of the few remaining high-use locations in our house that is not LED, is the hood over the cooktop/range. It has four PAR20 halogen flood lamps. Three have been replaced over the years with Philips 39W "eco" lamps, and one is still an original GE 50W. Considering the price of power in...

    120v BA15D LED replacements

Update after about nine years. Two of the corn-style LED bulbs I bought back then have failed over the past year or so. So I just bought a 5-pack of "BA15D-2835-64LED" bulbs from an eBay seller for like $16. Though advertised as "warm white" with a color temp of "3000-3500K", same as my old...

    Early America Lighting, Circa 1565 - 1620 & Beyond

My avatar and signature are from an old episode of "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea". Zar, as played by Robert Duvall, basically time-travelled to the present from a previous, and more advanced, human race that died out. It was a very brief comment in the scene. Yet I was astonished, when...

    Early America Lighting, Circa 1565 - 1620 & Beyond

Coal gas lighting was a big deal in the mid-1900s. When electric lighting was introduced, there were often huge wars at local levels between the existing gas companies and the newfangled electric companies. Electric of course won out. Many gas companies eventually merged with the...

Replacement/equivalent to original Cree TW A19?

Update - I bought a 2-pack of the Reveal HD+s at HD so the two lamps would be identical. But one was still ‘whiter’ than the other. Looks like the two shades have an inner lining that differ a bit in color - even though from the outside, unlit, they look identical... Both lamps and their...

Replacement/equivalent to original Cree TW A19?

Wifey and I bought a couple new table lamps over the weekend. When it came to bulbs, I had a couple of spares laying around. One of the original Cree TW A19 bulbs with the purple glass, and the other a Philips 3000k. Both rated 450 lumens. Much to my surprise, even though the Cree was rated...

Are CFL bulbs gone from Walmart stores now?

Not many CFLs at Lowes or Home Depot anymore either. Good riddance.

    IIHS test of headlamp performance

A few more details on their test procedures here: http://www.iihs.org/iihs/sr/statusreport/article/51/3/1 It seems almost impossible. Car magazine reviews are far more interested in reporting 0-60, 1/4 mile, skid pad, and braking times. So no help there.

    IIHS test of headlamp performance

I was about to post this too. All I can say is its about fricken' time someone pulled the NHTSAs pants down on this. They have been ignoring the problem for decades.
