I just want to comment on the thread. I agree on HID conversions shouldn't be allowed on public roadways. But for people that have actually retrofitted OEM hid systems into their cars, trucks, motorcycles and also all terrain vehicles should be cut some slack.

I have a retrofitted a single 55w TSX hid set up in my 2005 GSX-1300R motorcycle where the original high beam used to be. For me it was more of a safety issue since my motorcycle only has one low beam and one high beam; unlike cars that have 2 of each. The HID beam pattern is aimed a bit lower than the stock cutoff just for piece of mind. Also motorcycles accidents with cars are on the rise due to the driver of the car saying "I could not see them".

The auto-leveling systems are a great, but unfortunately FMVSS does not require them at this point in the United States. Even though auto-leveling helps dramatically, people that are cresting over a hid will get that bright light in their face for a moment or so, it's inevitable, I too get it done to me as well, but it happens to others that pass me too on a crest of a hill. SEMA (Special Equipment Market Association) has gone to bat on legislation for retrofitters that do OEM conversions, because they understand what it all takes in retrofitting. They are against PNP kits because all they do is turn a vehicle in to a dangerous glare monster for oncoming drivers.

FMVSS No. 108

Standard No. 108 - Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment - Passenger Cars, Multipurpose Passenger Vehicles, Trucks, Buses, Trailers, (except pole trailers and trailer converter dollies), and Motorcycles (Effective 1-1-68 for vehicles 2,032 mrn (80 or more inches) in width and Effective 1-1-69 for all other vehicles)
This standard specifies requirements for original and replacement lamps, reflective devices, and associated equipment. Its purpose is to reduce traffic crashes and deaths and injuries resulting from traffic crashes, by providing adequate illumination of the roadway, and by enhancing the conspicuity of motor vehicles on the public roads so that their presence is perceived and their signals understood, both in daylight and in darkness or other conditions of reduced visibility

If you need something clarifed from what I have posted feel free to PM me or ask in the thread.
